F-250 pulling out a stuck Dakota

We all went 4-wheeling at my buddy's hunting camp today. Just changed the shock on the Suzuki, works a LOT better!

Anyways, a fellow board member here, slammds15, as well as another friend of ours who has a diesel Dodge took turns blasting through this mud hole.

The Dakota owner went through the shallow side first... And made it no problem. Then he took the deep side, and well, got stuck.


First yank with the Ford pulled the hitch apart on the Dakota. Replaced that, and this was run #2:

Interesting. I would be ticked at the guy in the Ford. Hauling it out like that could do some real damage.

Just curious? You said a diesel Dakota. There was no diesel Dakota produced. Only Rams. Is it a conversion or was that a typo?

Looks like he should not have been in the mud with a clearly better path closer to the camera.

And yes, the clown in the Ford needs to respect both vehicles and learn how to pull out a stuck vehicle if he is going to "help".

No no, there was a Diesel RAM there as well that had made a few passes through. Got stuck when he got in really far on the one side, and was pulled out by a Chev. That pit is deep and a good snap is often the only way to get loose.

The Dakota was a V8, and a late arrival to the party.

The idea was to make it THROUGH the pit. These people EXPECT to get stuck. And the spot Jon was pulling from was the driest piece of land; everything to the left is softer.

As far as the clown comment goes, well, Jon's a member here. I'll let him defend himself. Though I think that's a little over-the-top and personal, given that you weren't there.

Naw, it's a thing we do. I had to pull his quad out of a bog with my trike with a line made of tied-together seatebelts.

He's had his own share of rough retrievals. That's just how it happens. Part of the fun. You go in the pit, and manage to get stuck, your ride out is going to be just as fun

We even had a full-sized Pete there, but I don't think anybody wanted to be pulled out by it

Ok. Guess I misread it.


Hey, no problem! We had a blast. I had the Expedition out, but didn't take it through the pit. It lacks the ground clearance that the others all have and I didn't feel like breaking my running boards. I did however lap the Dakota on the dirt-hill runs

And I took it through the ends of the pit. Just not the centre section.

Sorry, but I've never had the "thought" process of beating up vehicles just because. I just don't get it. Never have.

Maybe that is why I never have major problems? And I'd REALLY recommend if this thing is what you guys do that a few winches be in your future as they are much more nicer to the vehicles than what is being shown on the video.

Okay. Instead of winches a D9 will work also. They are just a little harder to transport.

I figured as much.

We had a Chevy field truck last year that we hit that hole at a speed that was, well.... Rather quick. We caught air on the approach...... hehehe

It was 2WD, and we made it 3/4 of the way through just due to the rate of approach.

It's all in good fun. I don't expect you to necessarily "get" it, especially if it isn't something you've done, or had the urge to do. And it is a choice of the individual to make the run, and get hauled out if they don't get through. Those that do, they know their fate well beforehand.

The Dodge RAM had a winch.... But really, the strap is a lot more fun

I don't think the winch got used for anything more than tearing down a beaver dam all weekend.

Not an issue when you are good friends with a guy who owns an excavating company

(which Tim, the guy who owns the big Pete, is).

I think the only "problem" would be the amount of time it would take to get it back there! LOL!

The funniest recovery I EVER saw:

Loaded cement mixer, stuck so deep the bottoms of the rear differentials were in mud at a construction site near my office. Trial #1- 2wd tractor. No joy. Trial #2- small bulldozer (D4-ish size- it wasn't a Cat though). No joy. What finally worked: A Korean-war era Hercules gasoline powered 10-wheel drive deuce-and-half in compound low. Ho. Lee. Cow. Talk about traction....
