I do believe Ford recommends premium for many Ecoboosts (they do mine anyway) and it can help with fuel dilution issues.

When the oil analysis shows <1% dilution what benefit is there to spending $1/gal extra for premium?

For the OP’s case, pick one of the many recommendations here and do another test afterward. Good luck.

Agree… many of the concerns people have expressed here would resolve themselves if they just didn’t treat oil like many folks treat TP, meaning: buying the cheapest product almost never gets the job done properly, and spending just a couple dollars extra on the proper product will make the entire experience much more enjoyable.

RelaDyne is the company that owns shell/chevron and others. Duramax is their house brand oil so I thought it would be ok.

RelaDyne most certainly does not own Shell or Chevron. There were several small local oil companies who probably don’t even make their own materials, that conglomerated to pool distribution resources in 2010.

Go Mobil1 ESP 0W30 in Wal mart. $27 for 5qt. They have also ESP 5W30. Also good, but 0W30 would be my first choice between two.
Pennzoil Platinum Euro L 5W30 is also available in Wal mart or it should be. It seems lately they are out of it. ESP would be my choice, again.
If you don't mind paying a bit more, Castrol Edge 0W30 Euro in Advance Auto Parts goes for $37 + Filter for 5qt.

ESP and Euro L will have MB229.51 approval. Generally, when looking for oil, look for this or MB229.52 approval. Euro approvals are more stringent. Edge 0W30 will have MB229.5 (full SAPS oil). MB229.5/51/52 are gold standard. Oils with those approvals have much stricter limits when it comes to shearing, deposits etc.

How do you think these compare to Quaker State Euro 5W-40? It has MB 229.5 and Porsche A40, BMW LL-01, and it can be obtained very cheaply. I know we're kind of splitting hairs with M1 ESP 0W-30 available for $27 though...

ESP is Low-SAPS oil. It is more friendly to emissions equipment. QS is Full-SAPS. It will have higher HTHS bcs. 40, and GTL base.
Unless towing hardcore, I would stick to ESP.
