Anyone have experience with Amsoil ATF in a transmission requiring Mercon-V? Good new?...Bad news?

What life has been gotten from Amsoil ATF, actually, not Amsoil's 3x claims?

This will be in a '96 F250 PSD.

Ken2,
Please have him check his owners manual again on the 96 Ford PSD. It call for Mercon, but not dual rated Mercon and Mercon V. This is an E40D and requires only the Mercon rating. Even the 01 4R100 is the same as far as fluid. On 02 and above I don't know for sure.

Mobil I ATF meets the spec. and Schaeffer's semi syn meets the spec. Neither are dual rated.

Now with all that said, the Amsoil, dual rated ATF seems to work great for this transmission in spite of the statement contrary in the owners manual. About 50% of all people I know use the Amsoil ATF, 40% use Mobil I and alot who race or do tractor pulls use Schaeffer's. I do see a few using the Royal Purple also. Now this is just in the people that I know. On the diesel boards, about 50-50 between Amsoil and Mobil I. I have never heard a complaint on either one, in fact both are highly thought of. IMO

The 2003 4R100's are still spec'd to use Mercon.

I would use a full synthetic Mercon compat ATF in this application.

Some ATFs are both Mercon-V and Mercon/Dex-III compatible.

The 4R70W requires Mercon-V.

Ken2,

The Amsoil synthetic ATF holds up very well .... When I change it in my Audi 100, it never looks discolored or has a strong smell....If you do a complete change including the torque convertor, you can go three times the normal mileage/time limit, especially if you install a "Magnafine" inline filter.

If you are just doing the pan change, I'd do that twice within 10k miles and then I'd still do the pan change every 30k miles if you are doing a fair amount of towing.

According to their website Redline D4 does not meet Mercon-V specs, it does meet Dexron-IV spec tho.

If their bottle says different, then they need to update their website.

I stand corrected:
