I know a guy who is claiming that Mobil 1 ATF meets and exceeds Mercon-V specification.

I'm telling him that even Mobil told me its does not meet or exceed Mercon-V spec.

Did Mobil update the Mobil 1 ATF spec or what?

The only full synthetic ATFs that I know of that meet M-V are: Redline D4 and Amsoil Universal ATF.

I just checked the spec sheet, it does not say anything about Mercon V, only Mercon III. So, to my knowledge it has not been upgraded.

Maybe your friend should learn to read a spec sheet.

From whay I have read Mercon III and Mercon V are two different ATF's. My 99 Ford PU calls for Mercon and warns against using Mercon V or oils that meet both Mercon and Mercon V. It seems that most Mercon V oils are synthetic but regular mercon oils come in both synthetic and conventional. From what I can tell I can use synthetic or regular but it must be Mercon and not Mercon V. I put in Mobil 1 synthetic and it seems to work well.

White - let me guess - either an "L" or a Superduty with the 4R100? Good choice in ATF if true.

Mobil 1 ATF is not Mercon V rated - I still haven't seen anything that says so, unless i has just changed.

As stated, I've only seen that Redline D4 and AMsoil ATF as the true synthetic Mercon V choices. Everything else is just a blend.
