While the SN GF5 should be an improvement. The greater than 5,000 mile oil change interval is where the SN should show the improvements. Engine cleanliness is like dry starts the words are known but not really understood. Usually the car is junked because of the $4,000 auto trans rebuild before a minimally maintained engine will fail.
If we really wanted to concentrate on the real destroyers of engines, we wouldn't worry about our oil changes so much. I've seen more engines trashed from coolant and overheating problems. If you've got a car with a timing belt, busted timing belts are probably a close second. I've owned some real junkers in my life, but none of them ended up in the junk yard from an oil problem.
