I recently purchased a case of Esso Uniflo 5w30,SM rated. It was purchased @ **'s in suburban Philadelphia. I know (or thought I knew) Esso was the same as Exxon, which is owned by Exxon-Mobil. Does anyone know if all of these oil's are manufactured in the same plants? Could Exxon/Esso Uniflow be the same as Mobil 5000?
If not,how about the quality of Esso Uniflow? Any opinions welcomed, Thanks.

Miked2. I remember the name Uniflo some 25
years ago. Anyway, Esso is still the name
Exxon uses around the world for it's company.
Here in Canada, Esso oils are called Extra
and Ultra for gasoline engines and XD-3 for
Diesel. I'm just surprised Esso oils are in
the States. I thought it would be Exxon.

Haven't seen Uniflo in years. Used to be name used for Exxon's premium oil. Then it was changed to Superflo and still is now. Don't know of any supplier that has Esso products in the U. S. If your oil is rated SM, I'd use it without a second thought. Though it's probably intended for sale outside the U. S.

If it worries you, sell it on Ebay!

Exxon still has rights to use the Esso name in the states where they could use the Esso name in the past. They do not have the right to use the Esso name in states where some other "Standard Oil" company had the right to use "Standard" or some derivative of it. "Esso" stands for "S. O." which is the initials of "Standard Oil"

Thus, the oil being sold in Philadelphia, that was where Exxon had the right to use "Esso". On the other hand, they could not have sold it with that label in, say, California.

Exxon is selling some products under the Esso name in warehouse clubs where they can. I have some ATF that is labeled Esso that I bought at a warehouse club.

Probably the same oil Exxon sells WM.
Whether WM oil made by EXXON is M5000
I haven't paid much attention since I'm in the west with WM Warren oil. You can't hide M5000 with salt as an additive if you UOA it.
