I'm at my 500 mile oil change. It's been recomended here, and other place's to use Rotella 10w30 for my break in. But what I'm curious about is that too thick for this time of year. This is a new to me truck, and the oil fill cap call's for 5w30. Of course I don't know if that's the right cap or not. But I'll find out today.

So, should I use a 5w30, or would I still be ok with the Rotella 10w30,,,wich I did manage to find at O'reilly's.

So it's a new engine in the '95 Silverado?
If the vehicle sits outside, and you are in the northern 1/2 of Illinois, I'd get a 5-30 in there.

Actually I'm in Granite City, Il,,,wich is just across the Missisipi from St. Louis, Mo. I can see the Arch from my house.

And the truck does sit outside. So I'll go with the 5w30,,,assuming it's ok for the engine break-in??

Was an engine break-in specifically recommended for your application? There are those that call break-ins a myth for recent engines. The Mobil 1 FAQ is one of those

After the miles you put on the truck already it is broken in. The Rottella T that you have now will work fine though not the perfect choice for freezing cold weather. A nice drive in the country loading and unloading the motor, like a hilly road, is about the best way to seat the rings as I have found. Just drive it like you intend on driving it and it will be ok.
