I used Google to search the site instead of the useless search function on here. Found threads from 2011-2013. Nothing newer. Dealer oil changes on our Subaru have been 0w20 Eneos. Almost out of warranty so I'll start changing myself. Is Eneos a remarkable oil or the same as others? It's more spendy for sure, that's why I ask. Otherwise M1 or PP will be my oil of choice. Whichever is cheaper. Or would Subaru genuine oil be better? I can get that for not too much more than the others.

I'd say just make it easy on yourself & pick up Mobil 1 or Platinum off the Walmart shelf. I am sure Eneos is a great oil but I doubt it's worth paying any more money for. Any synthetic 0W-20 that meets the specs for your vehicle will be more than sufficient.

It's a fine oil, but I wouldn't consider it worth a premium. One can find it here at attractive regular prices, so it would make a lot more sense for a Canadian to buy it up here than it would for someone in the States to buy it at a premium, instead of the majors at Walmart.

Yeah, that's my plan. But I lurk enough on here to know it's necessary to over analyze which oil before I go buy the M1 with the current rebate because it's cheapest. Also, with a direct injection engine, that also deserves over analyzation. Your simple answer defies BITOG Forums. I need more discussion! So, M1, PP, Eneos, Subaru Syn. And please include an overly detailed reason why. If I buy the oil before the discussion ends I'll continue reading for entertainment value.

This post was more detailed than Branson's but still hasn't made the geek level. Please, keep the future replies at geek level or higher.

Well, you're out of luck.

The best I can tell you is it doesn't have the ACEA specs that the Shell, Castrol, and Mobil examples have. But, Eneos is a major company and works with Japanese OEMs, and make no slouch of a product. I would personally consider it interchangeable with any of the majors, unless there was something really specific I was looking for, like a dexos1 certification, the ACEA approvals, or a 10,000 or 15,000 mile warranty. I suspect the Eneos could obtain those certifications and probably can go the distance with the competition for longer drains, but if I wanted any of these things in writing, I would look elsewhere.

The Sustina line stands out, but also in high pricing.

Given pricing up here, if I had to buy oil only at regular price from a retail location and it had to be synthetic, Eneos would be one of the first choices, but that's a peculiarity of the Canadian market, not outstanding marketing by Eneos.

Perhaps try the cheaper Castrol Magnatec 0w20 from WalMart. If it feels worse than the Eneos you've been using you'll have "butt dyno evidence" to justify purchading the more expensive oil. I know that sounds snart @ss but I meant it seriously. Peace of mind is important.

Eneos is great but the high price isn't justified in North America.. Now if its overseas where its(possibly?) priced competitively... Perhaps.

M1 EP 0w20 is around 28$/5qt doesn't get much better than that.

From my experience and opinion it holds up much better than the subaru 0w20 idemitsu?

I got 2 cases of that free with subaru bucks from my CC. It drained out like black water comparatively speaking after only 4000miles.

It seems like a waste but I like the M1 EP even if only using for 3-4months due to warranty requirements.

I'll give a low tier geek rating to this post. So, basically, I'm seeing no reason not to buy 2 jugs of 0w20 (aka "tap water") with the M1 rebate for a year or two worth of changes. The dealer recommended Eneos given its close OEM ties but, personally, I'll save the $20 and buy some steaks to cook after changing the oil.

I think that sums it up pretty well.
One thing I've noticed since Nippon Oil (the parent of ENEOS) came out with their top tier Sustina brand is a dumbing down of the attributes of their main line ENEOS oils. Now IMO it is just on par with the other name brand oils.

If the OP wants to try a 0W-20 almost as good as Sustina I'd recommend the Toyota brand (TGMO) 0W-20. It was originally formulated by Nippon Oil but is now made by Mobil for the NA market to Toyota spec's.

Yes this "tap water" is used in the Subie BRZ/FR-S sport coupes and the Lexus NX 200t turbo. And I've used it for years in my own sports/track car:
