Electric cars won't overload the power grid — and they could even help modernize our aging infrastructure

Ok so not only do you want to tell me when I can charge my car but you also want to use my battery (which has a finite ability to discharge and recharge) to charge other peoples cars. Lol.

Imagine if we said that you could only buy gas certain times. And that other people could use some of your gas for their cars if needed. But every time they took your gas your gas tank shrank a little bit. People would go crazy.

As for generation of said power, nuclear is very efficient and safe and can provide power 24/7. But no let’s use big batteries to store the solar power at night. Putting aside that is yet more batteries that need to be created and then recycled. Because that’s so environmentally friendly. And before you say I’m some NIMBY, go ahead, build a nuclear power plant right next door to me, modern designs and systems are VERY safe.

3 mile island, Chernobyl and Fukushima

Nuclear may be as safe as airplane travel but when a mishap happens everyone ends up dead.

Always look at the source. This source's paycheck depends on transitioning to EV's. No bias there / sarc

Having said that the grid could certainly be updated to handle EVs's - but no one is currenlty working on that. In fact a lot of places are going backwards.

It’s a political “news” story by a reporter.
Read the first couple paragraphs, Clickbait, I mean who doesn’t know that the power grid will not suffer in the immediate future?
Like hello of course not we only have about 3% at most electric vehicles on the road. Read the words and forget the slant of the story.

This is a unrealistic fear statement.

Not a single drop of radiation leaked from 3 mile island. Chernobyl could and should have been prevented. Fukushima was a natural disaster.

Modern plants are extremely safe.

While I agree about bias, I heard recently that our local utility got like $500M for upgrades to support solar and eV demands…

Not sure how one goes backwards - reduce voltage? Install smaller conductors? doesn’t make much sense. I get it if some interconnects and substations can’t support load sometimes, or generation is insufficient.

edit: apparently this got locked while I was typing.
