I recently got a 2015 Ram 1500 with the Ecodiesel.
I’ve read extensively and watched numerous You Tube videos on them.
My engine has 102,000mi and is running well. However, at 16mi since a dealership oil change the oil is somewhat “sooty”.
I plan to replace the engine oil in the next few days and want to give the crankcase a good flush.
Oil will be either Mobil 1 or Pennzoil Platinum 5w40 per Chryslers recommendation.
Would a pint of Marvels Mystery Oil on top of fresh fill for 25mi and drain work? I m suspicious that it might have some sludge buildup which can lead to oil journal blockage causing bearing failure…
I bought it with a 24mo extended drive train warranty. Hoping I won’t need it…
If not Marvels, then what?

I would not flush that engine. They are fragile enough, the last thing I'd want surfing around the bottom end is something cheap, thin and volatile like MMO.

If you want to "flush it out" do a couple of short changes.
I agree. Nothing, not one tiny good thing can come from flushing the engine. If you want to clean the engine, do as @OVERKILL says, then run HPL HDEO, which is comprised partially of esters and ANs that are very good at cleaning.

Don't. Why would you willingly thin the oil down in an engine that doesn't like thin oil.

it's a diesel, the leftover oil will always colour the new oil black.

Guess what? 16 miles after your next oil change, your oil will again be somewhat “sooty”. You bought a diesel, and not a particularly clean engine family at that, so get used to sooty oil. You also bought an extended warranty on something outside of all normal power train warranties, so if you trust that warranty at all, stick to documented oil changes only. If you think you need to dump “a little something extra” in the sump, it should either be HPL Engine Cleaner, or a better oil than you’re currently using. That’s it.

And if you don’t trust that warranty, get your money back while you still can!

Came here to post this. Use a quality synthetic with adequate viscosity and change the oil regularly. There won't be any sludge or varnish.

Thanks Cujet!
I’ve been using synthetic oil in my cars since the late ‘80’s.
However, this is my first “modern” diesel in a road vehicle.
I’ve been running a ‘68 Ford 3000 diesel for over 20yrs and have gotten superlative performance from it.
BUT, it’s a different beast for sure.
It doesn’t “soot” the oil. I use garden variety 15w-40 and drain it every 6mos, filters annually. Oil on the dipstick looks like it was just poured in.

From my reading and understanding, the biggest issue with the 3.0l ED is using the wrong oil, and neglect. Even Chrysler has changed the oil specifications since the initial launch of the 3.0.
Now, it’s ONLY MS-12991 which specifies a Euro Spec synthetic 5w-40. All of the Euro Spec synthetic are gas and diesel certified. Even Rotella 5w-40 doesn’t meet the MS-12991 specifications.
I’d never dream of 10,000mi oil changes as recommended…5,000 or less…
I religiously change the oil on my Lycoming powered Piper Cherokee every 50hrs and use an oil with the Lycoming spec additive..
