Easter Ham

I'll be smoking one on the weber with wild cherry and apple. I use a combination maple syrup, hot mustard glaze.

My father is going to smoke a ham, I'm bringing in Polish smoked sausage with pierogies from a local market...

not having one this year , guess I could go to store and get one but not going to...going to have to make something else this year

I have never tried baked ham but I would like to; Does anyone have a good recipe? Our tradition is no meat on Friday but Easter dinner should include lamb.

Oh boy!

Back in the 1960's . We used to Visit babcia Chmielewski in Jersey City on Roosevelt Ave. She and Janik would have all kinds of good stuff to eat. Never Pierogi though.

Now I may want Kielbasa and Kluski !

There's a large legacy of Polish est's in Buffalo, the Broadway Market is one of the oldest. You can probably order from Camellia or Redlinski Meats...

It's expensive though...

Not trying to be a mood killer here but we're taking EVERY OPPORTUNITY to not go to stores and to eat everything we already have in the house.

Don't get me wrong. Do whatever you want with food. Family tradition, religious tradition, religious requirement...whatever.

We're taking the current condition as a prompt to clean out all our stock first.

Food in the freezer, cans and jars "downstairs", peculiar shapes of pasta.....it's all being used.

We still go to the grocery store once a week for milk, bread and greens. Hmmm, maybe I could pick up a ham?

No, no fancy nothin' until this is over. And again, that overstates it. We've turned consuming our P.I. (prior inventory) into a "kind of game".

We are doing the same but we use Instacart instead of going out for fresh food and meat (including Easter ham). $9.99 a month. No charge for orders over $35 plus a tip for the shopper. All local stores participate though some don't honor their current sales. Groceries are dropped off at front door. We follow the recommended guidelines for bringing items into the house. Worth the small amount of money for my wife and I both near 70 to do this. Has been flawless so far. BTW first time we have tried out some of our "stock" of Natrel boxed milk...Outstanding. taste and texture better than expected...very close to store bought "fresh" milk. Keeps at least a year in storage

My wife kicked back and forth between a turkey or a ham and somehow settled on lasagna. I guess because it was just me, her and our 15 year old son. She's taking the quarantine VERY seriously and wouldn't have the older kids over.

SO... Our son is a huge fan of The Chef Show and probably partially out of boredom asked if he could build the lasagna. My wife had chosen all of the ingredients and everything was the best of the best. Fresh pasta and cheese from the pork store, ground beef from the butcher, the sauce was some awesome stuff made in Brooklyn.
I made a pizza crust/ garlic bread to go with it. I gotta say, my boy did a fantastic job with the lasagna. every bit was awesome.

We'll do a ham when everyone can be together.

Had a GF about 10 years ago. She was a couple years older than me. Must have grown up in the era where people were afraid of pork and cooked it to death.

She would never understand the ham was fully cooked and just needed warmed up. Would fry and flip a ham steak numerous times, until it would be like eating shoe leather. Same thing outdoors on the grill.

Was a pretty good cook except for pork. Same thing with pork chops and roasts. If we had pork after that, I did the cooking!

JD,

A internet search using AI identifies Cheryl Tiegs as being a few years older than you, loves John Deere tractors and thinks men from western Iowa are the real deal.

I think you girlfriend from ten years ago has been identified.

Not my old GF GON! Maybe in my future.

But the question remains, can she cook pork?;)

Smithfield has been our favorite baked ham for decades. No hickory or honey stuff added at time of purchase..
Kroger, Sams Club, Costco, Meijer.....etc.... all sell Smithfield Hams.
