I received my order from Amsoil and was pretty disappointed with my filters! I ordered 3 total. First an Eao42 for my Dakota 4.7... an Ea15k50 for my Jeep 5.7... and a Ea15k20 for my wife's Santa Fe 2.4. Now that holidays are over I'm getting ready to change out my wife's so I looked at all the filters. Eao42 looked normal but the other 2 I had issues with.
-First the Ea15k50 looks like half the holes are cover by the anti-drainback? It doesn't look normal but maybe won't cause a problem?
-But the Ea15k20 concerns me with the wire(?) hanging in it( it is attached towards the top of the filter from what I can tell, not floating around). It's thin and looks like it wouldn't take much for that to be up inside the engine. I will be contacting Amsoil tomorrow about this one... I'll post pics of it in next post...

I don't post much, if at all, but I do frequent the site almost daily and I've learned a lot and checking over filters is one of them. I have also been using Amsoil for a long time and this is my first bad experience. I know they don't make their filters but the wire inside the filter does concern me!

That ADBV looks OK, and seems to be centered ... it's just the way it's designed. The small area of the ADBV "blocking" the inlet holes won't really matter.

If there is anything on the inside of the center tube that can break off or come loose, then definitely it would be a concern.

Contact them, they will make it right. I had a few spin-on EAO's for the Santa Fe that were clearly dinged in shipping and they send me 5 replacements free of charge. That said I'm now using Fram Ultra because it's less money and from what I can see the filtration and flow is the same/better.

The adbv looks fine, but the other one with the wire inside would definitely cause concern.
Contact Amsoil, I'm sure they will make it right.
I have run many Amsoil filters over the past 3 or 4 years, and cut them open, all of mine looked great.

The ADBV is just the way its designed, and seems fine. Not sure about the wire. Did you get these directly from Amsoil, or a reseller ? Either way they should take them back if you feel they have a defect. Just give them a call. I have cut open about 10-15 Amsoil filters , including about 2 Ea15k20's and have never seen a single defect.

More proof that any brand can occasionally make a bad product.
I am sure they will "make it right" if you reach out to them, and you're likely to get good products in return.

I echo others; the ADBV isn't an issue as the amount of coverage of the hole isn't enough to alter flow and would be fine to use.
As for the thin wire (or whatever), it would be nice to dissect the filter for greater investigation, but then you'd not get a exchange replacement.

Good thing you checked before using the filters, I often don't check mine but this is a good lesson to do so. I am sure Amsoil will make it right with you.

It is a lesson to check and shake for debris or funny rattles.

So I just got off the phone with Amsoil tech line. He was concerned and wanted photos and I also took a pic of the lot number to send to him. He's sending out a new filter which I thought was very nice site unseen!

I'm waiting to hear back to make sure he received my email with the photos and if they don't want the filter back (he didn't really say one way or the other). If they don't I will cut it open and post the pics.

I order these along with my oil, and other products from them. Nothing against an ultra, I just use these and have so for quite some time (even going back to the SDF before the Eao). I think Fram has done a great job with the ultra and there whole lineup really, IMO.

^^^ I'd email him a link to this thread so Amsoil can see how people react to crappy QA.

That was the extent of the conversation I had. I'm assuming they'll check the lot. I never heard anything back today after the call so I'll wait for a new filter. If/when it arrives and unless they want that filter back to look at I'll cut open. I'll update later and thanks for the responses!

May have to think about using an Ultra after this...
