So it really can happen, wow! I have to get some more sure drains.

Would love to see that Simpson episode.

I don't know if it's in an actual episode, I don't think it is, but this does happen to Homer in a credit card ad. It's Mastercard that does that neverending "priceless" ad campaign right?

Thanks Jelly. Wonder if any "Motor Honey" drained out after the bees.

I was picturing him opening up an old beater that had sat in the yard for years.

When I installed my bypass filter I did not drill the 7/32 hole in the sandwich adapter and I could hear the oil going through the adapter spring at some rpms. I called Ralph and he suggested to drill the hole in the adapter. I was about to put the adapter back on when my son-in-law called and wanted to borrow my Tundra to pick up carpet samples. I was rushing to get the sandwich adapter on and did not tighten it enough. I could not believe how fast five quarts of Mobil 1 5W30 could come out of a six cylinder. Shut it off right away and cleaned up the driveway and my cat, Henry, who was a witness. Had one quart left.

I have one of these:
 -

as I'm sure everyone else does. It has a plastic stop screw in the middle. I drained the oil and forgot to take the plastic screw out. Needless to say, the top only holds about 2-3 Qts.

I realized this when oil was pouring over the sides. I then submerge my hand in boiling oil to unscrew it and all was fine!

I plead ignorance for using Frams for years.

well, I ALMOST removed the trans drain plug....blame Honda for putting their engines in backwards (compared to Toyota!)

?? My honda has the bottom of the pans labeled.

The oil and trans drain plugs are also different and need seperate tools (17mm socket or 3/4 extension) to remove. Would be hard to be confused by that.

I guess the older 80's accords might not have that?

As I slid my head out, the lady was standing next to the car with her back turned and I got a bid ole eye full of butt up under her skirt. [freaknout] Right then she turned and looked down at me.

I've still got that image burned into the back of my eyes. My therapist thinks it was Freudian slip and has got something to do with my mother.

Dude, I can't stop laughing........... [LOL!]

THAT was the funniest thing I think I ever read here....I crapped myself laughing so hard!

I used to take my VW 1.8L turbo to Wal-Mart for oil changes, where they installed Super Tech 5w30 dino & a Fram oil filter.

Oh, well they only charged $13 for this. ANother dumb thing was leaving that Super Tech in my turbo for 6500 miles once....all highway miles, maybe it didnt do any lasting damage???

Then I began suffering from OCOCD (oil change obsessive compulsive disorder) & I started doing the oil changes myself with M1 0w40 + M1 oil filter.
smile.gif
It costs a lot more, like $35 for oil+filter, but my VW loves me now.

Toke off the oil filter before draining the oil pan. Not a pretty site, could'nt get the filter back on in time to avoid a sleeve full oil.

That's EXACTLY what happened to me. I have that IDENTICAL oil pan, too. I actually lost that center cap after leaving it outside on a very windy day. Oh well, good riddance.

Me too on this, but the thing about that stupid pan is that I unscrewed the plug and just put it up away from the hole to not lose it on the floor (as stated above). If you do that, it just rolls all the way down to the hole and settles right in! They should make it octagonal - maybe I should just chain it to the handle . . .

Let's see.

I've had the old oil filter gasket stay on the block twice. Once a long time ago, and then a couple of years ago. It hadn't happened to me in a long time, so I guess I got unobservant again.

I had a '64 Chevy with the old drop in canister filter. I guess I didn't get it on tight enough or it was on crooked. I was just a kid, and my Dad was not amused at the mess. When I was a kid, I also stripped the oil pan plug out by tightening instead of loosening.

I'm not going to admit to the dumbest.

My mistakes pale in comparison to things I've experienced being done to my car by so-called "Professionials". Worst I've done is drop a piece of sealing foil into the valve cover. Kinda bad, I guess. Pep Boys forget to replace my O-ring on a canister (BMW) filter and I drove home 1 mile to have it dump it's oily bounty on my driveway. They said on the phone, "don't drive it, tow it back". I went back in another car and retrived the O-ring and upgraded to Mobil 1 plus some kitty litter made everything ok. My mechanic said "get a new engine for free". I was too dumb.
PS if you have to change oil over good concrete, like a nice driveway, spray it with water FIRST to repell any oil spilled. Clean-up is really easy.

Years ago I was in a GM Dealership waiting my turn to talk to a service tech. In comes this customer absolutely irrate and banging his fist almost talking in tongues, he had 8 quarts oil in his new car's crankcase. The dealership grease monkey doing the oil change had forgotten to drain oil on that O.C., not a happy customer.

Dumbest thing, huh? Well, I once let a bumble bee get into the oil filler hole. He didn't come out, so I just pretended that chitin was some sort of special anti-wear additive.
