With all this great info coming out on bio blend oil, will we get a new category, maybe call it HOBS? Although it has other components in it, this bio oil is quite different and there is a lot to lean about it.

Does anyone have the 10 years of supporting test data that they offer at the bottom of page 2 in the PDF file that RI_RS4 linked? Is there a fee for this?

Ben, I doubt it's available without an NDA, but you could send them an email and ask for whatever is publicly available.

Noak volatility is high for a 5w-30. 11.8% I'm guessing that is for the other base oils. Viscosity index of 194!

Lonnie, why a new section? It's a synthetic oil.

I don't think a new section is necessary, either. Just keep this thread going and search for BIOSYN or HOBS. I'm sure it will grow as more information, questions are available.

It's not synthetic, exactly and there is a lot to learn about this hobs stuff. GC morphed to GC and others. The BioSyn stuff looks like a brave new world. I'm testing some now and this stuff just plain works different than other oils.

Lonnie, that's an interesting observation. Terry has alluded to that in our discussions. Every time he talks will Bill Garmier of Renewable Lubes, he calls him a genius. This oil literally recovers from damage that would kill other synthetics.

RI_RS4, it appears that newer technology has removed past problems with HOBS products in the hands of people like Bill G. at RLI. I have talked with Terry about another interesting development in high-end synthetics, not including RLI. They are having problems with source somponents and formula's are changing. It's not that these changes are bad, but who's to know in the short term if a new additive with say,tin in it is going to work as well as the original formula. Some formulators have gone on in the past with the idea that they could just get what they wanted and raise the price as needed. Now the pricing has gone through the roof for some components if you can get them at all. I would not be surprised to see some of these operations going out of business in the near future. Mobil 1 may have been 'edged' to make more profit, but I'm afraid that the small guys will have to edge their products just to stay in business.
