Nope, just telling the truth. There are things in the VOA that are unique to this oil. I've sunk too many development dollars into this oil to give away VOA data. If you're interested, purchase the oil, put it in your 2.0T, and send a VOA sample into Terry.

I make nothing on the oil from Renewable Lubes, or the oil analysis from Terry, but I have spent a considerable amount of my own money to have this oil developed and bring it to market for the Audi community. As a result, I don't just give away free data. I'm selfish like that!

Actually, you will get a really good answer because not only has Terry done a lot of work with the oil, he has talked may times with Bill G. the creator of the oil and has a unique insight into not only what's in there by why and how it works. You'll get more than 3 percent of this and 5 percent of that. This oil does some interesting things and in the high performance oil business, this stuff is a breath of fresh air. It will leave some experts behind that will not adapt to such new technology. Previous attempts by others have had mixed results. The worst you will have to do is buy a 5-gallon pail because they are not really a quart bottle operation. That so far, is the biggest down fall of this oil, how to get the oil out of the bucket and into your engine and not spill it.

The results with this Audi rocket engine are a good example of what starting with this oil can do. It also shows that the parties involved will cooperate to produce a better product, something you might not get with Mobil 1 or Castrol. They are showing confidence in their knowledge to produce, in the face of widespread scrutiny.

I contacted them and they are selling it by the gallon and by the quart

Not sold by the qt. as I understand from Jackie today.

Gallon or 5 gallon pale. I may go for a four x 1 gallon pack of 0W20.

-> Bio-Synthetic SHP SAE 5W40 HD Motor Oil - $XX.XX per quart
-> Bio-Synthetic SHP SAE 40 HD Motor Oil - $XX.XX per quart

This is what i got in the email Jeff Schloneger sent me today along with gallon prices...

Since my engine takes 10 Quarts for a full change with filter, I order 6 gallons at a time. That covers me for 2 changes and any top offs I need.

RI_RS4, I just spoke with Bill about this oil and I just want to make sure I understand. Did you try their regular 5w-40 at first and then have them tweak the formula per Terry's specs? Or is this super-secret oil a different animal?

per post from RI_RS4 on 10-Jul:
"If Renewable Lubricants had already had a 5W-40 oil on their menu (which is what Audi recommends here in the US) we would have gone with that and tested it. Since Renewable Lubes did not have an existing 5W-40 oil, Terry asked them to formulate one to his specs, based on their technology, with the RS4 in mind."

Just an FYI, I recieved a 2 gallon order of this stuff today. Ordered it on Tuesday.

I'll be using it in my Saab 9-5 Aero. It too is a fuel diluting turbo oil eater, with the bonus tendency to sludge

I've had good results with Mobil 1 5W-40/Delvac 1, but Terry's advice and the clearly good results here convinced me to experiment

It will be a while before I get a UOA, probably next spring. Hopefully Mr RS4 here will keep us busy with new data in the meantime

At that time, there was no "regular" 5W-40 oil from RLI. Take a look at their data sheet and you won't see one. It's a ____ viscosity used only by those silly Germans. The RLI Super High Performance 5W-40 Motor Oil is our blend. Anyone can purchase it. However, if you do, I would appreciate it if you would have Terry Dyson do an oil analysis at around 5K miles, so we can continue to monitor the oil's performance in multiple engine types.

I am certainly intrigued by all this, but I have a couple of questions for RS4.

YOu stated that you were reluctant in using Redline 5w-40 because it was not Audi approved, but now you are using an oil that is certainly not Audi approved. What gives?
What changed your mind?

Also, considering that the Euro Audi/ VW oil approvals have been advancing 504/507 etc, could this be the reason that the outdated 502 00 approved oils are not providing sufficient protection?

Just curious.

"Bio-Synthetic SHP SAE 5W40 HD Motor Oil"

Is that it? That's what was listed in the email they sent me when I asked for pricing.

I haven't quite decided when yet, I definitely will buy some and run it. If you want an analysis at 5k, you got it.

Stoic, after 12K miles of testing it was clear that no 502 oil was going to perform well. There was enough data for Terry and I to conclude that there were some serious fuel dilution issue that would require a more specialized oil. Terry had some theories on how fuel dilution could be reduced, and using an available non-502 oil we tested that theory, and found it to be correct. (That would be the Nifty Oil Experiments" section of my wear plot.) I can't speak for Terry, but I know that if Redline had the right characteristics he would have recommended it. At this point, I asked him to recommend and/or formulate the best possible oil for the RS4 engine. Nothing was off the table.

As for your second question, I do not believe that 504 oils are providing any better protection. We do have data on one 504 oil. It is the factory oil shipped with engine. The factory oil is definitely a 5W-30 oil and has been reported to be Fuch Titan GT 1 5W-30. UOA on multiple engines show that it does not perform substantially better than the best 502 oils. And when compared to the BioSyn, it performs much worse.

I want to see these oils in more engine designs and in more varied operating conditions before I'm ready to jump on board. More data the better.
