Don't move here

My wife and I grew up when there was 20 million people there. It was a fantastic place to have a childhood. It all went down hill after the last 20 million moved in. It's my understanding population is now pushing 38 million.

We have a saying among ex-Californians-"you don't know how much it sucks.....until you leave".
My subdivision in Midway UT is about 90 percent people from CA. The real estate seems to rise double digits every year since I have been here. Guess people from CA have very deep pockets for real-estate. I work in CA about 45 days per year, and have to say I love the weather and the food......

Yeah we live in a new subdivision in Northwest San Antonio. Half the new neighbors have CA plates.

The move to Texas has been going on for years. When we lived in Austin EVERYONE was from California.

California has such beauty and natural wonder, its a shame people have to leave to make a living or get some affordable housing.

What is the deal with rolling blackouts? Power grid not being kept up?

Never dealt with anything more than a blip on power outages in Austin or San Antonio.

You have to remember that if you own a home in any nice area in California-and have any savings at all-you are a millionaire. So yes-people that relocate from California to any other states ( that have cheaper Real Estate) have deep pockets.

I was told recently that Star Valley, Wyoming (of all places) is getting bought up by people from Southern California-especially.

Yeah … a portion of the grid fed by South Texas Project plus many other means …

According to Forbes there is a 500MW gas plant that failed and an out of service 750MW gas plant which is the cause for the current outages.

But here is what CAISO’s current power looks like, they’re also importing 8,555MW from neighboring states according to Electricity Map.

We live in Lakeside CA a small town in San Diego county. Weather was 115* yesterday and 108* today. Yesterday we blew a transformer and the responding worker was electrocuted. I don't know the whole story. We had been without power for two days and just got power restored a few hours ago. Talk about a hot long weekend. Spent most of it tending to our pets. I have never seen such problems in all my 57 years of living here. On top of all that we have a huge fire burning 15 of so miles away so we are covered in smoke and ash.

Todays supposed to be the hottest day for the Labor day weekend,110/111 🥵

Los Angeles County recorded its highest-ever temperature Sunday as the weekend heat fanned wildfires across California and put additional strain on the state's power network.

The record temperature was at Woodland Hills, according to Dave Bruno, senior meteorologist for the National Weather Service.

"We reached 121 degrees (F) in Woodland Hills, California. That is the highest-ever temperature at a station, beating 119 degrees on July 22, 2006," Bruno told CNN Sunday.

Too many people and a lot of EVs in Cali. It makes you wonder what our grid would have to look like if every vehicle was electric. Pave the roads with copper?

And I hate it here when it's (always) humid and in the 90s. At least it's not humid! Or is it..? Does it feel like when your wife leaves the bathroom after using the hairdryer for 10 minutes? 😆

I don’t blame the millionaires in California for selling their homes and moving somewhere they can stretch their dollar like Texas, Tennessee, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, Carolinas, Florida, ....etc....

If my life situation allowed for it, I'd move to California in a second. I used to travel quite a bit for work and pleasure and really enjoyed the time I've spent in Del Mar. I'll probably wind up in Arizona, Nevada, or Utah if I'm lucky.

Despite many individuals leaving CA, or so it seems, the real estate market around me is red hot right now. Most houses are selling within 4-7 days. So, the area is still desirable to some people....maybe just not certain folks.

Del Mar is incredible. Problem is, I would need $5-$8M to afford the house I want.

$5-8m To buy a house that has at most $200-$300k in raw materials invested to build.

I have lived in Ca nearly 50 years. It has changed a lot and not for the better. But I love my house and the things I can do like going to the beach and mountains in the same day.

I do wish I had a place in a free-er state where I can ride my atv and carry a gun.
