I am done with it too...

Plenty of oil companies actually make their products available for purchase.

Pennzoil Ultra isn't good enough for me to go hunt it down.

I wish they'd address the issue with the WMT pricing, they're losing customers.

Is it that hard to find in the US? Here in Canada, every Canadian Tire carries it, and there are 5 or 6 within minutes of my house.

Before you cheer Canadian Tire or Shell on this matter, remember how long it took Canadian Tire to get it in stock. Also, are you prepared to pay Canadian Tire's regular price on any oil on their shelves, much less Ultra?

If a company can't offer me a decent, every day price on oil, it's grown exceedingly less likely that I'll buy any oil from them, on special or not. One of the reasons I run Delvac 1 ESP 5w-40 in my G37 is that I get it for under $25 a jug, every day of the week, without having to sprint into Canadian Tire to beat the old farts to the oil aisle for the fresh sale. No thanks.

At least NAPA Canada has come into modern times in some regards. They keep some sales basically perpetually (i.e. the EcoBoxes have been on sale for the last 6 to 12 months, and the same with Castrol and Mobil synthetics). And, you can reserve "sale priced" stuff online, unlike CT, to preclude the old [censored] race on Fridays.

Honestly, have no idea how long it took. I have been using Motul up to this point. Try finding that cheap.

$60/jug is a lot cheaper to me than a $25k motor.

Canadian Tire just finally got it in, and PU existed in the SM era. They brought some in initially, and couldn't move the product, and it's been gone since just recently. And yes, a local motorsports dealer here has Motul, and similarly priced to PU, which tells us how bad CT is gouging.

$60 a jug is cheaper than a $25,000 motor, but that doesn't justify a $60 price tag, particularly when CT is probably getting it for 1/6 that. You saw my price of Delvac 1 ESP 5w-40. You see what Canadian Tire sells the product for; their sale price is higher than my regular price. Yet, they pay less than I do. I know of some big implement manufacturers here that pay less than half again of what I do for Delvac 1 ESP 5w-40. They deal with engines worth more than $25,000 and aren't fussing with $60 a jug oil, either.

If CT can afford to roll this stuff back to 50% off every few weeks, you can be sure their markup is insanely high. And Walmart Canada is no better.

In fairness to CT and others, though, Shell Canada's distribution system is a ridiculous nightmare. Neither Shell nor Canadian Tire worked very hard at getting PU onto CT shelves. But, they spare no effort in having markups way higher than industry standards, so, their oil can sit, as far as I'm concerned.

If ordering online, make sure it's sold by Walmart. You may be looking at an independent seller that jacked the prices up. Walmart's website has become like Amazon and eBay now. Many different sellers and prices.

"Sold and shipped by Walmart"

M1 EP 0w20 $15.85 BEFORE rebate

Sorry, price is no longer valid, though. Also a WalMart online deal

[online pricing] "cuts both ways" "two-way street" and all that

That has to be some kind of misprint. I bought a 5qt jug of Platinum about 2 months ago, and I could swear that the Ultra Platinum on the shelf was only a few dollars more than the $24.99 I paid.

L8R,
Matt

Is there really any more benefit running Ultra versus Platinum or for that matter any top tier synthetic? I would skip the Ultra and move on. If two identical engines ran in the same exact way over the same period of time, one with Ultra and the other with Platinum, could anyone tell the difference? I would suspect they couldn't.

If you keep following that slippery slope you will be back to conventional oil.

I think there maybe a difference but it maybe on the order of 1% "smoother".

Just like how premium fuel can get you maybe 1% more power, but cost 15% more at the pump

Perhaps Walmart wants customers to come in an buy a bunch of garbage they pass by on their way to the oil aisle, like they do up here. If it's regular priced up here, you can get it online. If it's a good price, forget it. You get to experience the "People of Walmart."

Great point and probably spot on.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least. Walmart rolls in money, and Amazon bleeds it. Walmart selling a product with a razor thin margin and offering free shipping and a way to avoid everything else they sell there that they really make their money on is a recipe for disaster, and perhaps they're figured it out.

I don't get it...did they try to one-up Castrol's titanium formulation by adding gold?

Holy cow!! 5W30 is $65!!
