You put a hating on Fram because someone overtightened it, and then someone crushed it whilst removing it, and it doesn't look normal when removed?

I hope you're still not claiming that those two filters are exactly the same inside and the can is only painted differently ... because the are clearing two entirely different filter designs.

Fram air filters on the other hand are pretty good, at least for the Ford 5.4L 3v engine.

The Fram Tough Guards are good filters with the oiled filter media. The regular ones are on par with all paper filters.

The herd mentality on display by many folks on this thread is disappointing to read. I like to think there's a better signal-to-noise ratio on this board, but reading many of these comments, I'm starting to wonder.

I used Fram filters for years prior to Bitog. While I never had a problem, I won't use them anymore. There are better filters for less money.

What demarpaint said! After seeing what my money buys me from Fram, I'd rather spend it elsewhere. OCOD is sufficient for normal use but others look better at end of use for the same or less money.

It was over-tightened in the first place. Fram Xtended Guard is a fine filter, better than Napa Gold IMO. Metal end caps and wire-backed synthetic glass/cellulose media and silicone ADBV. My cold start rattle is gone with this filter. First Fram I bought, ever.

One thing this site has taught me is to have an open mind. I don't regret buying XG filters.

True. But the topic of this thread is not a fine filter. And the XG is quite noticeably not constructed like the orange can, tough guard or the the topic of this thread the Fram HM. The last of which being the worst because it's an orange can with snake oil in a basket inside, costing ~$3 more than the oc.

And Fram is also the company that produced (now discontinued) the Double Guard filter with teflon inside, another gimmick. So some of Fram's poor reputation is deserved, imo.

Don't know what happened upon removal, could well be owner/installer error. Doesn't change the fact FHM is an overpriced gimmick filter.
