Fram Extended Guard XG7317 cut open

5,000 miles on filter using Castrol Edge 5w30 in my Integra. My car calls for the 3593A but this filter works for older Honda/Acuras too. Sat in garage for a few months before cutting it open. Great filter, well worth the $9 they cost and would buy it again. Sturdy can, pliable ADBV, held lots of oil for months, and the media was uniform and robust.

Looks just like the one I cut open. I agree that it's worth the money, if you're doing extended OC. I think it's more well built than the P1.

I buy these at Wal-Mart now so I don't have to make two trips...it's worth the $1-2 more to not have to go to another parts store or K-Mart to get a P-1.

The media looks pretty fuzzy and thick, different than other filters.

The Fram XG looks to be great quality at a resonable price range I guess.

Is there any chance you could pull apart the media on this one? I notice these are the older silver style ones instead of the newest gold cans. On the gold can ones the box says "new 2 ply media" but we don't get those ones up here, all we have are the silver can ones like you have here. Since that's what I'm currently running on my Corvette, I'm interested to find out if it's media is the same as the new ones or not. I still might be switching to the Mobil 1 filters though, now that they are finally available up here!

They are the same. I saw a silver can cut open awhile back and it has the screen between the 2 layers

I could pull it apart and take pics of it sometime. Probably won't have time today though. asiancivicmaniac - I bought a bunch of the 7317 and 3980's for 50 cents a piece when Meijer was clearancing them at their thrifty outlet store.

I think I have 10 of these in total, along with a bunch of Tough Guards and one High Mileage for the Daewoo I maintain. They had a ton of the regular Extra Guards but I didn't bother with them. Even the tough guards were a stretch for me... the Extended guards though, awesome deal! Wish I could find them for 50 cents (or even 2 dollars) more often!

Wow....9 dollars for a oil filter that you throw out?

It may be good but you can buy something comparable from Mahle for about 4$ online that will do just as good if not better job.

Fram just amazes me.

I wouldn't mind normally, but I'm only down to around 3 or 4 of them left. I donated one to river_rat for his filter testing, and used this one. Most of them that I got were the 3980's.

When I tell people I buy an ST for $2.50, I usually hear "spend a $1 or $2 more and get a Purolator, since it's better" When someone spend $8 on a filter there's always going to be someone who will say " That's too much, spend $2 or $3 less and get xxx brand of filter"

If your post is directed towards me, what I spent on my car is not even close to 30K it's not even half of that. If that's your logic, maybe I should find the most expensive gas to fill up and not go to Costo or Sam's club to fill up. I spent $3,000 on a washer and dryer last year, maybe I should use the most expensive detergent that's on the market vs a house brand. It's not that most people are cheap, it's why spend more when one product meet their needs. Is there prove that a $5 filter is going to make the car last longer than a $2.50 filter? If you can show me then i would be glad to switch to a more expensive filter. To this day there is ZERO difference between a $2 vs a $5 filter on a 4-5K OCI on my car.
