Dog owners- which dog food?

Used science diet for the yorkie, switched to more expensive Blue Buffalo small breed and haven't looked back. Didn't notice too much of a difference, but I assume the dog will live longer and be healthier due to the better ingredients and whatnot.

Very good food. No beef, wheat, corn, soy, or by-products. And chicken and chicken meal are the first 2 ingredients.

2 out of my 3 dogs are allergic to beef and wheat and have very sensitive stomachs. (Both were abused severely before I rescued them) so buying dog food is tough if you don't want to spend a ton every month, but this is a great price and healthy.
All 3 have great shiny coats and really like the food.

Here is a nice review and rating of it: http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-food-reviews/4health-dog-food-dry/

I visit my local TSC often... I'll have to check this out! Thanks.

None! they all use Natural Flavors (MSG), corn fed Meats, ect. My daughter just tapped me and said Honest Kitchen. Our Dogs eat Raw with Honest Kitchen mixed in. Plus we have Goats and the Dogs get Raw Goats milk.

I bought the cheapest 52 lbs bag for $24-25 from Costco. My dog likes it.

People love food from McDonalds, Popeye's, Sonic, etc... but does that mean the food is good for them?

EWWW! Could you imagine the sample gathering proceedure for the used analysis.

We've used Blue Buffalo's Wild Blue for a number of years now, and found it to be an outstanding food. Both of our therapy beagles love it, and both are very healthy. Both are at their perfect weight, and with the high quality nutritious food it's easy to keep them at a healthy weight.

Your vet doesn't need a sample for an annual fecal exam?

My dog got cancer last year (February, 2011). A mast cell tumor, grade 2, pretty large, on the back right knee. I didn't know anything about cancer prior to that, not in dogs, at least (I know alot about human cancers). I took her in to have a biopsy, which is how I found out. These things come up rather quickly, it appears.

The first question my dog's surgeon asked, "What kind of dog food do you give her?" He recommended some brands and types. All were grain free.
She survived surgery and is cancer free. Since that day, we switched her to Taste of the Wild. We went with fish based.
To be fair, I also started giving her a multi-vitamin and (re)started her on Brewer's yeast. She's lost 15 pounds and is much more active, can jump onto the bed again, etc. She is observed to be much healthier and happier.

I think the choice of dog food plays into the health a great deal.

In many neighborhoods, the owners are required to pick up after their pets anyway, so there are numerous opportunities to gather samples.

My dog had allergy problems until I switched to Natural Balance, he eats the Salmon and sweet potatoe.

Pick a food with limited ingredients and natural. No grains or cheapo food made from rendered grease and god knows what else.

I worked years ago at a restaurant and all the grease(and acid used to clean the grills) was sent to a plant that made cheapo dog food, we wonder why the dogs get cancer.

After a lot of trial and error (including Royal Canin), we are sticking with Blue Buffalo Chicken and Rice for my pug. That is the only one he eats without making a face.

I'm another Taste of the Wild user. One nice thing about it: the place I buy it sells ethanol-free gas...Win-Win!

Cheap food can be a false economy (though not always). My pitbull could eat cardboard and he'd probably be fine (though I still feed him TOTW). He's had a strong constitution ever since I got him @ 6 months. OTOH, My ridgeback had all sorts of skin issues, ear issues and goopy eye, all of which went away when I switched from Purina One to a grain-free food. So, I think that generally a premium food is money well-spent.

If we were taking about dairy cattle that would be normal. their food is completely customized to the herd through "UOA".

I feed my German Shepherd a mixture of Blue Buffalo and Diamond brand food. I mix it and store it in a large plastic container.

She loves it, has a shiny coat and enough energy to supply power to the neighborhood if it could be harnessed.

The toy poodle we have also eats the same food. In fact, he likes it better than the Kibble & Bits my wife used to buy for him.

I feed my 5 year old cocker spaniel Purina One, occasionally he gets some Tractor Supply brand canned food. He still acts like a puppy.

I think Blue Buffalo is a very very good food but it sure is expensive, isnt it? Tractor Supply carries it but often more than not, ran out, which is bad for business I think. Anyway, good wholesome food is the key to any healthy animal or human!

Science Diet and/or Ceasers.

I say and or because after awhile, the dog wouldn't eat the latter, but devoured the former. Recently she went the other way.

Now, she eats a mix of both.

And yes, the dog is female.
