I was talking to a guy tonight who operates a tree business and has many machines in the woods at times. He told me when he has a tire that looses the bead seal while in the woods that he squirts ether all around the inside of the rim and lights it to "blow" the tire back on the rim.

I have never heard of that, but it could be something that is done by a few daring souls.

Anyone try this?

It will seat the bead, but not inflate the tire. If you do it wrong and leave the valve stem core in(I have a few times) it'll seat the bed, then deflate and pull itself right off the bead.

I have use the ratchet strap / rope trick with more success.

Mythbusters did it thinking that it would inflate the tire fully. Not the case.

just did that with 2 trailer tires that i mounted last weekend. learned it from my grandfather.

other things will work as well, like certain kinds of silicone spray

I have worked at places where this was done. Sometimes a cheap 205/75/15 or 215/70/15 tire would have such floppy sidewalls, that regular tire machines couldn't move enough air to seat the beads.
