I was in the local mom-and-pop local hardware store last week and was in the back garage area talking to the owner. Again, this is in a small town and I went to high school with the owner. Sitting there was a freshly-used snow thrower that belonged to the store owner. I looked at it as the melted snow had left a puddle underneath it. "Do you want that thing?" the owner asked. I looked at him kind of funny. He told me that if I wanted it, I could have it. I looked at him for any strings that were attached to it. He told me that he had used it for the last time because his store is selling the EGo brand of electric equipment and he would be using the electric snow blowers from then on, mainly for customers to see how well the electric equipment works. Of course I told him I wanted it. I again asked him what he wanted for it and he told me to bring my truck around a load it up for free. (I actually got him a pack of pork chops a few days later. I wanted to sleep good at night )
A few details: It has a Tecumseh 6.5 HP engine, so it's does have a little age to it. Tire chains are on it. It has the 120 volt electric starter on it. It is a dual-stage MTD and the photo that I'm going to upload is a representative photo, but I know it's been used very little because the augers don't have any paint wore off of them and everything looks new on it...except for one thing: It has an oil leak coming from the output shaft or shafts. It has a guard on that side and I haven't taken it off yet. But I do want to replace all the seals on that side when I have the cover off. The picture of the show blower is a representative photo.
So...does anyone have the correct numbers for the oil seals? TIA.

Get some Arnold mower deck and Snowblower coating and spray the entire snow blower assembly. Nothing will stick. Second sweet find. Unless the Ego stuff has improved significantly over the last couple of years your Snowblower will outlast the electric ones. My neighbor had a first gen ego mower a few years back and it caught fire. The second gen one they changed the blade adapter pattern and after 3 seasons can't get through mowing his entire front and back yard without the battery needing a recharge.

Some of those old Tecumseh also had some very thin castings and a lot of porosity in the sump area. If its wet underneath and the crank seals don't appear to to be leaking that could be the problem. Have been able to take side cover off clean up the base then hold a strong light in there and see it glowing right thru the aluminum.

You might as well order a rear cover gasket too.
Good point. I thought about hitting it with gasketmaker, but I may as well use the real gasket.
I should be finding a little time this weekend to see exactly where it leaks.

Remember before substituting sealer for gaskets most small engines use gaskets for end play control on crankshafts and camshafts

I have a Tecumseh engine on my homemade bush hog. It leaks a bit and makes a puddle when stored. I simply fill it up before use. Too much work to rebuild that engine. 20 years now and it is still running well. I use M1 15W-50.

I used one of those wheeled string trimmers, removed the string, installed a blade and made an aluminum deck. Brutal tool.

I believe my old 4 stroke Lawn Boy has the same engine. It also leaks/ burns oil. It definitely consumes more than it leaks, but it doesn’t smoke.

A heavier weight doesn’t seem to help. It’s definitely noticeably harder to start with a 20w50 too. Pulling is about the same, but the thicker oil creates a load on the engine until it’s warmed up. Acts like you’re trying to start it in tall grass and trying to mow immediately.
