Does Castrol need better products or marketing?

Why, so people can run it 5k miles and dump it, saying “oil is cheap, change it often!”; or, run it 7.5-10k to dump it and act like they’re doing something earth-shattering?

Read the fine print. Nothing on the planet is going to get 25k out of EP Edge without something being out of spec/grade. Are there even more than 3 examples of anybody running Edge the full 20k miles, let alone in spec/grade? They need honest marketing more than they need anything else.
My post is not a reflection on the amount of miles one can accumulate with the new Edge EP.
It has everything to do with the absence of the product in my geographical area.

The Gold bottle has always been Castrol's Signature Oil in ILSAC / API circles. It's MIA right now and needs to fill a void in Castrol's product lineup.

If you are not in favor of BITOG folks here using 20-25k oils for only 5k, well I set my Kia Mileage reader for 4k and inside the engine is a 50/50 blend of HPL Performance Plus and No VII.

So how do like those Apples Subie-Rubie-Roo?

You can burn your money however you want. So can others. My point was 48%+ of people buy shelf oil and never use it to its potential; 48%+ of people complain about not having good enough options but never use their current oils to their potential; and then there’s ~4% who pay attention & use the right oil for the right OCIs & laugh at everyone else who unnecessarily wastes time and money in the first two categories.

If you notice, that statement applies to all oils. Enjoy. ✌️

Supposedly Castrol has stated their GTX FS is the replacement for Magnatec or at least that's the one in their lineup they are pushing. I used GTX back in the 90s and then sometime in the 00s switched to M1 and then PP when it became all the rage here. I'm currently using Magnatec in my 99 Civic, I've mostly used PP in this one since I've owned it but did run their Edge w/ Titanium in the gold bottle several years ago and it was fine.

I have no issues with Castrol but seems like Walmart has better pricing for other options is all.

IMHO, if they changed jug shape and labels to more modern looks like other companies did, they'd increase sales a bunch.
There are many Castrol users, company makes good oil too.
They changed their logo and labels a handful of months ago.

Castrol seems pretty popular in Australia with both enthusiasts and normies.

I’ve used magnatec twice this year and will probably be using GTX Ultraclean 15w-40 in a couple of weeks.

I never get the impression Castrol does anything better than anyone else. I will be using it in my 24 Volvo S60 T8 for a while, the one with Volvo spec, only for warranty reasons.

I know it was 10+ years ago and things might have changed, but I always think about those Pennzoil Ultra Platinum ads that showed Castrol Edge was at the bottom of piston cleanliness vs all the popular synthetics.

From my perspective, I never even think of Castrol anymore. It’s not that they are a bad oil, but the lack of marketing and no real innovations causes me to forget about them.

Canadian Tire gives Castrol products has fair amount of shelf space and has them on a repeated sale list along with other popular oils. Here are shots of the Edge Euro Car 0w30 and 0w40. Both are made in Belgium except the 0w40 is bottled in the USA.

Well, the first question you have to ask yourself is how do you determine an oil is better than another? The only way I can think of is by comparing what oil companies claim via industry standard testing. Whether an oil has moly, Ti, AN, ester, group III etc. means little to nothing.

How does the oil perform in an actual engine test.
What specifications does it meet.
Does the oil exceed the tests and if so by how much.

I don't particularly like Castrol but if I'm being honest, the new EDGE looks mighty impressive.
