Does Castrol need better products or marketing?

From the major oil brands it's been a long time since I've seen someone hyping over Castrol products.

I think German Castrol 0W30 is the last time I saw someone excited about Castrol products, which was probably like 10 or 15 years ago.

The titanium additive and magnatec looks like it didn't really resonate with BITOGers.

Mobil always had strong following. Shell has people raving about PUP. Valvoline had a strong comeback with R&P. It seems like Castrol is getting left behind.

Do you think Castrol needs a new oil product to wow customers or some better marketing?

Moving to Audi in 2026, but Alpine is not a good choice at the moment.

It appears that ever since the internet began to spread across the globe, and as it is now likely available to just about everyone on the planet, some companies may have figured out they do not need to spend so much on advertising today like they once did. It does really appear that some companies advertising budgets had to have been slashed over the last several years since consumers (us here too) have noticed we do not see near as much as in the past.

The new reformulated EDGE EP looks very premium. I say that based on what they're claiming against industry standard tests. They're a major brand capable of making a good oil. Was never a brand I was interested in simply because of the other great choices available.

It's been around 1-1/2 years since the new 25k formulation Castrol Edge EP was shown in ads and there's still no sign of it around Detroit. Their Black Edge is not in the same recipe league as the EP.

So please, they need this new EP 25k Edge more than they need new marketing.

Why, so people can run it 5k miles and dump it, saying “oil is cheap, change it often!”; or, run it 7.5-10k to dump it and act like they’re doing something earth-shattering?

Read the fine print. Nothing on the planet is going to get 25k out of EP Edge without something being out of spec/grade. Are there even more than 3 examples of anybody running Edge the full 20k miles, let alone in spec/grade? They need honest marketing more than they need anything else.
