Just gave the X5 an oil change today. Don't you just love it when the car has Fresh Oil. It's soooo smooth.

I haven't had any real good seat time to differentiate between the GC and the Redline 5W30 that I was previously running in the car, but methinks may OCI may be for frequent......just for the smoothness of *fresh oil*.

I'm not sure how *thinner* GC is as opposed to RL 5W30 but the car did have more pep. Can't say for sure if it was just fresh oil or the GC.

Dream on!

YES! I thought I was the only one that did this?

The two exits off I-65 on Saturn Parkway provide a great way to "feel" the new change. My son loves to ride shotgun with me too.

In my after-oil-change test route, M1 15w-50 has been my fave for adding low-end kick, and M1 5w-30 and Castrol's Syntec Blend 5w-30 have added rev-happiness to my Saturn.

Right now, I'm torn between keeping Pennzoil or running GC through the winter. When GC finally is used, I'm sure to put it through it's paces in my little part of the world.

Th only thing a 15w50 can "add" is sluggishness - it's thick, thick compared to M1 5w30. Chances are you're just seeing placebo though.

You guys must run a heck of a long OCI if "fresh" oil makes a difference in performance!

Tsk, tsk, tsk. How pathetic... But, while we're on the subject of self-delusions, did y'all know that snake oil is the perfect engine elixir? Some total stranger in a horse-drawn wagon told me so - even said that it's pure Group III! (it isn't - everyone knows that animal fats are esters...

It does feel somewhat more sluggish at higher RPMs, but at the low end seat-of-the-pants dyno says otherwise. No placebo in this case, there definitely is a more torquey feel with the thick oils in this car.

I really should enter to a Pro Solo race one of these days. Maybe I wouldn't have such a desire to "test" things out in my "race track".

I love that warm fuzzy feeling I get envisioning that clean oil doing its job.

Hey,

For me it's not so much for fun as it is out of habit. After I finish up and oil change job, I clean up my tools and everything else then go for about a 5 mile drive out on the highway, come back, shut the truck off and let sit. Check the oil about 20 mins after shutdown, top off as necessary.

Yea it's fun, is it necessary?? probably not but you deserve to reward yourself, lol! AR

I hear that! Picturing the oil washing over the engine making it all nice and clean is a great feeling!

Of course a clean car will be quicker : dirt on the body panels adds to aerodynamic drag

i can say without question my car runs better/smoother following an oil change for a little while... you might not notice it on yours.. but for some of us its there

5w-30 15w-50 Ive poured them hot & cold straight out of the Jug both to-gether not one of them pour quicker than the other,2 pots on the stove with both oils Bubblin pour em out the same time same result no one oil empties quicker.

Yes, sometimes there is an initial difference in engine performance immediately after an oil change...it usually wanes after a day or two and is most evident when switching brands/types of oil. Maybe due to different brands/addative packages?

Yes, I too have posted better torque with better viscosity lubes. Must be due to the piston sealing effect. Similar to open exhaust=LESS torque at low rpm.

Yes, a clean car....and further that...a waxed car will have better high speed acceleration. Similar to a freshly waxed ski on snow.

Endless amber waves of fresh clean oil cascading down off of the valve train ....(visions of Tackleberry in Police Academy as he looked at all the new weapons at the law enforcement trade show)

Gotta love this forum. Everything from cold, hard UOA numbers, to wrench-turner poetry.

Me, I'm looking forward to next week when, for the first time, the waves of emerald green goodness will surge through my oil passages, sweeping away any trace of unsavory accumulation, banishing friction from my bearings. It's already there, on the floor of my room, a bag with five bottles of you-know-what, silently calling to me. . .

C'mon guys! I'm only 300 miles into a rinse phase and you're making me want to go out in the garage and change my oil
