Dino in WRX?

Hi All,

Just curious I was thinking about just changing with the recommend conventional 5w30 oil every 3750 miles (severe interval) in my 2.0 Turbo Subaru WRX in lieu of the steadfast (it seems) every 5k with Mobil 1. Is this really a bad idea? I drive the car moderately (I achieve near highway mpg typically). A dino change by dealer is much less expensive than Mobil 1 by compentent independant. I won't do myself while car is under powertrain warranty.

I really don't see any problem with it. I would think though anyone who could buy a Turbo WRX wouldn't have a problem with the extra cost of the Mobil 1. Not a flame just a curiousity.

Doing it yourself won't affect the warranty.

How about the best of both worlds....use Motorcraft 5w30. Pay a dino price but get a group II/III synthetic blend. I doubt your Subie dealer will have Motorcraft oil on hand...you'd have to do the change yourself. As Al stated, it will not have any effect on the vehicle warranty. Just save your receipts for oil and filter.

With such short intervals and easy driving non-synthetic will produce better wear numbers. Your WRX will thank you for it

2nd for Motorcraft 5w30

I bet Motorcraft done twice as often is better than Mobil 1. Same cost including 2 filters. 2500 vs 5000 miles? The physical process of draining all the contaminates out cannot be matched by a single fill of Mobil 1 and single filter.

Out of curiosity the dealer uses Exxon SuperFlo as fill. Is this any good? Mobil 1 is $60 by independant, dealer charges $19.95 with factory filter and dino.
