I have pondered yet another mystery while cruisin the freeway this evening.

My service manual does point out that an SAE 30 oil can be used in lieu of the 10W30 factory fill.

Is Chevron Delo Synthetic? And if so what base oil group?

Hi,

Don't use SAE 30. It can lead to more cylinder
wall wear. Just ask MolaKule and Bob.

xW-30 has viscosity modifiers which allow
oil to flow at cold temperatures as well as
provide sufficient protection at high/operating
temperatures.

thanks

10W-30 has passed a cold temperature viscosity test at -25°C. SAE 30 wt. does not have a cold spec. They're both about the same viscosity when hot.

There are fifteen different Chevron Delo motor oils sold in the U.S. The usual Delo 400 is not synthetic. There is a Delo synthetic, but it's probably only sold in cold winter areas. It's probably a Group III base.
