Decent Sunday morning watch- couple buys a motor home 2,000 miles away, requires two oil changes in first 24 hours

I wouldn't drive 2 hours to buy a vehicle, 2,000 miles well nope.
I certainly don’t like the idea, but at some point I ought to: if I want to find a beater that is worth fixing, then I need to get out of the rust belt. I don’t care about paint quality, just that it is rust free.

But new? no I don’t care much to drive far.

Coincidentally, I saw that video last night. The couple and their child seemed pleasant and accepting of the problems they encountered, and were genuinely happy with their purchase even though the problems started almost from the moment they began driving home, which was a 2,000 mile trip. They struck me as the type of people I'd like to know.

They worked through the problems one by one, as they happened, and arrived safely and happy at home with the RV of their dreams. You just know they'll modify and repair it, and spend many happy hours touring in it. 👍 👍

Flying 2000 miles, then driving back 2000 with a 20+ year old, unknown history diesel camper, with the wife AND young kids?? Mrs. Bullwinkle would be kicking my a, er, butt, all the way back!
Then we would hear about it the rest of our lives.

The couple was in it together, for better or worse, and even with the problems they encountered seemed to maintain good spirits, spend time with their son, and enjoy the adventure.

Some years ago I took an off-road and highway trip with a woman I knew, and when we ran into a small (by my standards) problem she became annoying, critical, and judgmental. I solved the problem in short order, and continued on our trip which we completed without further incident. Stuff happens, y'gotta deal with it, and it's easier to deal with if you've got a good attitude.

This couple definitely loves a good adventure. From listening to them talk, it seems like this is is an awesome adventure for them. They clearly anticipated that there may be problems with the motor home, and were willing to deal with them.

Thanks, @GON...awesome video to enjoy with a cup of Java on a Sunday autumn morning. I'm not enamored with the van life trend, but that RevCon with the 7.3 liter diesel would be on my short list if was so inclined. I think that particular RevCon was in excellent condition, especially for a 30 year old RV driven in salt belt Michigan. Wonder what they paid for it?

Also, the only real problem they had was related to the defective fuel pump which was recently installed. I suspect the mechanic who installed it used a cheap overseas pump which appeared to fail after ~150 miles following installation. The second alleged "breakdown" was due to operator error when he drove the tank dry and sucked air into the fuel rail/injectors. That was easily fixed by purging the trapped air from the fuel system after switching over to the secondary fuel tank.

Nothing wrong with that sort of an adventure. I’ve done them. With my wife, multiple times!

For sure. I actually watched most of this. Either very well edited, or an actual supportive couple that loves a good adventure. Reminds me of my wife and I.

Fun video!

Agreed. They need to bring that thing out west where there are places/roads that are three hours from anywhere-with no cellphone service . Loads of fun.....

Lovely family there, or they look good on video at least! Glad it all worked out for them. Things wouldn't have gone so well for me I reckon.

You actually have to work pretty far to find that if you stay on the beaten path.
