Cybertrucks rust in the rain.

Bad business imo.
Ya think?
Seriously, the queer duck truck boggles my mind but I know I'm not the one to ask.

With all the challenges surrounding the vehicle industry, you'd think an odd, heavy, expensive, fabulously exclusive airport tug is the last thing anyone needed to build.

I'm so not into this caliber of consumerism. The whole thing just stinks! I can't be alone.

Lots of jumping to conclusions here. Don't some of your legs get tired ?
One or two reports of rusting don't make for a known and serious problem. Especially given the tendency for clickbait driven stories and how easily the Tesla and Musk haters are manipulated.
...
Who said it was serious?
Are there people buying expensive Tesla trucks in the $60,000 ++ price range that are showing surface rust right out of the showroom?
Answer = Yes

Calling that manipulated is = propaganda
I dont see anyone calling it a serious problem and the reports are limited, but they are there. Some at this point say it might be rail dust from trains settling on the surface. It is too early to know anything. I suspect much of the public doesnt understand uncoated steel will not remain pristine over time.

The Truck doesnt have a clear coat. (thank god its not GM) *LOL*

Lets see in a few months if it really is an issue. I seriously doubt it. Especially considering it took three years of development.
Sure, it probably water spots. So does a black paint job. I would be curious what the owners manual for the Cybertruck says regarding care of the body, if anything. If i owned one I'd surely keep it waxed with one of the modern ceramic or graphene over the counter wax products just like I do with my painted cars.

But go ahead and keep speculating and criticizing about the what ifs and hows if that makes you feel good.
i personally think its more clickbait advertising that really grinds folks gears as the reality of the product is way different then what was presented amplified by the fact that most of these owners have more money, sense, and view there self worth directly tied into their possessions (social media clout). Then when when these clout chasers present these articles, car media aggregators rewrite this story to fit their demographic, and folks for example who will never buy a tesla, get to feel better about their decision to not be a customer, or get to yell out on other platforms, "see i told ya so" without really understanding what is actually happening since they dont have the product infront of them nor understanding of automotive material design science/industry.

Its fun to see where these threads go, but then we all know how these end. 🔒

As mentioned Road and track published this, cited autoblog, which cited business insider.

usually from dishwasher though.. not in the silverware drawer.

I'm still waiting on a EV car thats affordable. Bolt was but they fixed that fast.
If the bolt was still around in a year or 2 it was a definite second household car possibility.
Bolt is around and readily available. I too was/am(?) considering. Just go to GM online and you can select ones just finishing production to get delivered to your dealer, others already in transit can be selected.
The New 2024/25 Bolt will be out by Jan 2025 I cant help but wonder if the price will be the same though 😖 😖 Dont count on GM to get it right. Sometimes they surprise like with the Trax

Good myth busting. Stainless is reactive and free iron that sits on it will rust. It's surface contamination only and can be cleaned off easily. Bar Keeper's Friend used here works well, citrisurf77 can also loosen the deposit and simply wipe it off. If anything stubborn use a blue non-scratch Scotch Brite pad as it won't leave any marks on the metal.

This is from the lead tesla reliability engineer. Wes

Google returns:
Chevy took the Bolt EV and the Bolt EUV off the markets at the turn of 2024, and here's what lies in its future. Your browser does not support the video tag. During General Motors' earnings call in late April 2023, CEO Mary Barra confirmed that the Chevrolet Bolt and Bolt EUV would be discontinued by the end of 2023.

I thought the blazin-er was taking over "starting at 43k" which means 50k.

Is this the second thread regarding this topic in two days? I think Musk is fatalistic. He's alienated half of the consumers with his views and opinions and he's wrecked Twitter. I don't think he cares about a little rust - he's all about ideas.

google and ... ?
Im smarter,
If you would like a new Bolt, you can order it here/find it direct from GM website - (also US taxpayers will pay you $7,500 to buy one making the price a steal)
GM BOLT, GET ONE HERE

You can put in your own zip code for local, GM will ship to your dealer. So much for google, master of all things, NOT.

Your welcome ;)
(always verify what you read)

reading comprehension is always good ;) .. I said in a year or 2. Not that they werent available now.
You posted a google return that said this and this is how I took it (even bolded out end of 2023) =
"Chevy took the Bolt EV and the Bolt EUV off the markets at the turn of 2024, and here's what lies in its future. Your browser does not support the video tag. Anyway, just so you know since you MAY be interested, as I am. 2023 is the last production run but still coming from the factory. I suspect the last of them and more expensive LT2. Up until just a couple weeks ago we sat in some LT1's or something at the dealer.

But, if this helps GM backed away from discontinuing the car after public feedback, April 2023 was a long time ago, will now have with a new 2024/25 Bolt carrying the new standardized battery being used in all GM EVs
I just hope they keep the price but we can guess how that may go.

Yep, someone blew it big time choosing whatever grade or brand of SS they used for that uglier than all hell Cyber truck. ;) I don't ever recall reading about DeLorean's having that problem, but I never cared to check.
It's all musk. He had to have stainless steel. From my understanding like alot of his stupid ideas the engineers at Tesla tried to explain this but the big giant head wouldn't have any of it.

There's a country song waiting to be made about this. Something along the lines of meeting a new girl and having it quickly turn sour the first time it rains.

Initially, the plan was for the equinox to take the place of the bolt in a similar, but slightly high price range, but much criticism in the media and from the public because the bolt was so loved, they decided to keep the bolt and the equinox will still be the next level up
