with halfshafts so cheap these day,I wonder why people even bother to clean and rebuild them. Faster just to swap them out for new ones.

The term "halfshaft" is old terminology. These days it's a Left CV Axle Assembly and a Right CV Axle Assembly.

Do enlighten us, just how is the general description "halfshaft" old terminology? Does it not still denote that each is one-half of a complete axle? Or, do axles in your world consist of thirds?

Just do a search at any of the auto parts suppliers. Nobody uses that term anymore; it causes too much confusion.

A lot of C/V shafts have a support bearing and multiple shafts on one side, and are indeed 'thirds'.
