Interestingly, Volvo says to use "spray wax" 30787812 on outer CV joint boots. If you search for that part number, a Polestar TSB comes up and that part number cross references to Wurth Cavity Protection Spray. It seems that the purpose of the spray in this situation is to reduce noise from the boots, but I assumed something like this would attract dirt and cause damage. For what it's worth, I think the outer boots are made of TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) and the OEM is GKN.

Do any other manufacturers recommend spraying something on their CV boots?

The only CV boot coating I use is silicone spray.
I apply it annually, give or take a few years.
Still have the original, uncracked CV boots on my BMW which date back to the Reagan era.

I'm not saying the spray mentioned above isn't good, I'm just saying there's cheaper/easier to obtain products available.

It comes from an aerosol can, so I just spray it down and let them drip off the excess and air dry.
It's practically invisible once it dries.

What does the silicone spray do? I’ve concluded that there’s nothing that can be done to extend the life of rubber. Nothing can be sprayed to tires to mitigate dry rotting. Are CV boots not the same?
