Cut-Open PureOne PL30001

I have used these often and have 1 of these PL30001 filters in my stash now. I cut open most of my filters (pureone, napa gold/wix, mobil 1, donaldson) and my thoughts have always been: thin can, good neat media with metal endcaps, leaf spring is lame, silicone is good, still see paint overspray on every filter end, color reminds me of baby poop (honestly who picked this color?), made in USA. Overall solid construction with some tradeoffs to get to the pricepoint.

I have a Pureone on my car now. Ill cut it when I take it off at the end of this change. So far though, no rattle from the Modular even though it has a dome end bypass.
Ill continue to listen as we get into the colder months and the end of this OCI with the most heat cycling on the filter.

I wish all filters had a grippy surface like the P1--makes changing filters so much easier. I also like the teflon coating on the seal, which means I don't get stuck filters. Not all P1s have the 45 record thingy bypass valve. For example, the PL14459 has a spring bypass, which some of use as a bigger filter to replace the PL14610 (a lot of Hondas and motorcycles).

I use the correct oil filter wrench on my oil filters and dont care about the grip so much...I do NOT like the gold fairy sand that gets into the filter..That is a total turn off,,There is an orange filter with the grip also would you use that? I would not personally
I use group 7 at my shop which is a rebadged purolator classic i believe...They are an ok filter for the money (Under $2.00)

Purolator fixed that issue a long time ago ... guess you never heard the news (?). But Purolator does seems to have an "over spray issues" now and then on some of their PureOne filters.

Color of a filter is irrelevant to me. I'm more interested in function. The bottom line for me is that the PureOne's have the best advertised filtering performance at 99.9% at 20 microns, except for possibly the Amsoil filters that cost a lot more. The grippy texture, teflon coated seal, and silicone ADBV are all bonuses that I could live without if some other filter offered more performance for the buck, but I don't see that out there. Dead horse and I will stop beating...

That little bit of small stuff would hurt nothing..plus it's in the inlet side.

your just passing up a fine filter for no reason.

So far, I haven't come across any flaky Pureones in either the PL14670 for my Jeep, or the PL30001 for Mom's Jeep.

There were problems early on. I had ordered some from Amazon.com when they made the color change. Problems were reported here regarding the flecks. I contacted Purolator, and without any problem at all they took 8 filters I ordered back, and replaced them. The new ones were perfect. I've checked a few times when I bought P1 filters and found all the filters I looked at to be fine.

There could be a few filters floating around with flecks, but I haven't seen any.
