I just cut open an older Pureone

I just cut open a (sparky blue) Pureone (4459 version) that I ran for 7600 miles in my daughters Elantra. It looked great...with even pleat spacing even near the crimp and NO TEARS. The silicone ADBV was soft and pliable and it had the little string around the media that Puro's used to have.

This was the filter that 'made' Pureone's so good....I wonder why they changed?

PS: I know some will say "Useless w/o pics"....but I don't have that capability so you'll have to trust me...

The yellow finish is textured and rough enough to be able to remove/install the filter without a wrench. Makes the oil change go a little faster.

Aren't the new Purolators cheap models (and puroOne replacements as well) using better media now? ZeeOSix thought so, but I'm trying to find out why he thinks that. Any evidence would be nice.

It really does seem that they were trying to save a nickel's worth of media...which caused the large pleat spacing near the metal crimp....which most likely caused the tearing....I wonder if it coincided with selling to Walmart (made to a price point??)

This filter was about 10 years old and looked (and presumably worked)great....I would use them in a heartbeat if they were stiil available.

There should be a date code on the can if you still have it laying around.

Purolaters were once a good filter although i never liked the pure one...These days i would not go near one
