I live in a small suburb of East San Diego County. Customer service in this area has been great. I used to pass through here a lot and it was one of the reasons that I moved here.
Customer Service has gone downhill

McDonalds really sucks. I ordered pancakes and a hash brown, they charged me 5 in change for that. I rarely eat junk out.
Then I try the pancakes - tasted cold, inedible.
The hash brown tasted like old rancid oil, maybe a step above gear oil without the sulfur smell. Was undercooked and soggy too, like a sponge soaked in oil.
I can get a bag of 12 name brand frozen pancakes for less than $3.
I threw it out, not even worth my time to go back. Gave them a [censored] survey, I'm sure they really care.

I like their coffee, only a buck for any size and free refills. I go a few times per week. There's a bunch of regulars that are there in the morning. One guy even brings the employees donuts. Which kind of shows how friendly the employees are. A few of them are pretty cute as well which doesn't hurt anything.

I can't remember the last time I got bad service somewhere.
On the other hand, I've seen some real insufferable jack-[censored] for customer needlessly harass store workers over stuff they clearly have no control over. These people deserve terrible service.
It's amazing how good service can be when you're nice to everyone.

I went back to the McDonalds, and was served by the manager. The service was outstanding, because the guy actually CARES about his job. (Unfortunately the free cookies he gave me were burnt, but they were free, so I just ate them.)
As for the other places:
- the M6 was Chicago, and the Uber was L.A.
- you really don't expect great service there

I just find it amusing when I go to a retail store, and with all the computers and fancy screens in the register they still can't give me the correct change back. And if you give them the extra penny so they only have to give you a dollar back instead of counting out 99 cents they get extremely confused. It's not rocket science, just simple math.
Don't blame the customer service people, blame the management who implement ridiculously rigid/stupid policies and don't allow any exceptions just to save the company a few pennies which then force us to sit there, tell you no, and argue with you until we're both blue in the face instead of just making things right like we'd love to do in the first place.

It runs way deeper than customer service. Big corps are training their low level employees to be unethical. Insurance companies have $8 hr people deny your claims as medically unnecessary, or total your car and give you a fraction of its value, or open unauthorized accounts in your name.
I'm also very concerned about the people handling my food. I really dont believe they take the level of care i would. I'm more often getting old or spoiled tasting or contaminated food in nice restaurants and grocery stores.
