You should. The fact that I don't get a discount, nor do I work at the store, I refuse to use the self check out lines.

Right on!

Yeah really, I tend to avoid using the self-checkout and letting a store put the customer to work as cashier and bagger for no compensation.

^ I feel no guilt about leaving a shopping cart out in the parking lot... so someone can go out there and get some fresh air hauling them back in.

+1,000,000 (some of you BITOGers have no idea how it stinks in the "back")

I virtually always use self checkout because it's faster and I do a better job at bagging.

I don't find self checkout is always faster. Often there are customers at the self-checkout who are really slow, the automated check out keeps messing up and telling them "please remove the last item scanned..", the attendant has to fix something, accept their coupons, ID them for alcohol purchase etc. Then no matter how fast you are sometimes a joker behind you will crowd you as if you're moving too slow just because YOU are the one checking out.

It's not my responsibility to make sure the products are bagged properly either. The store should have enough cashiers with open lanes and properly trained baggers in the first place instead of self-checkout and customers taking up the slack.

I agree but around here, they don't and didn't, even before the kiosks. The only time I ever saw consistently good baggers was at military commissaries (they work for tips).

Apparently, the self service checkouts here are bit more refined. It's pretty much in-and-out. I guess I could demand a refund for what they would have paid a bagger (5 minutes at minimum wage is ~$0.60) but it's just not worth it for me. Even when I have somebody check me out, I still prefer doing my own bagging.

I'll be honest and say when I only have a few items and there are open self-check out and not open cashier lanes, I'll sometimes use self-checkout and not make a stand.

But the reason this happens in the first place is there are less cashier lanes because of the self-checkout.

The Walmart nearest me took out all of its self checkout lanes, probably because of the group profile's tendency for theft and not enough intelligence to operate the self checkout. Apparently shutting off the self-checkout at night wasn't enough, they had to completely take it out.

I kind of get the impression that even though this Walmart took out the self-checkout and installed more check out lanes, they kept the same skelton cashier crew.

When I go to Meijers or Krogers I often find the cashier lanes faster than the self checkout where they have more cashiers and even baggers. I always use the cashiers at Meijer.

They don't pay me enough to smile.. hhhaahhaa Oh wait I'm serious. The customers I put up with to have a paycheck no thanks.. I WILL NOT go above and beyond what I'm paid to do. PERIOD! EVERYONE wants breaks or deals.. COME ON BUDDY..PAL BUDDY.. screw you man, I'm not your buddy is typically my response.
