An Asian man walked into the currency exchange in New York City with
2000 yen and walked out with $72. The following week, he walked in
with 2000 yen, and was handed $66. He asked the teller why he got
less money that week than the previous week.

The teller said, "Fluctuations."

The Asian man stormed out, and just before slamming the door, turned
around and shouted, "Fluc you Amelicans, too!"

Yes, good catch. Whoever made up the joke got it backwards for today's international currency market where the dollar is sinking like a stone.

Its not that the dollar is appreciating, it is depreciating. Each dollar is worth less with the passage of time, so they get cheaper, and you can buy more of them with any given amount of foreign currency such as yen or euros.

Here in the north country, the low value of the US dollar is attracting Canadian shoppers to shopping malls near the border.
