Spent the AM at my friend Neil's home changing the oil in his giant pusher MH powered by a 360 hp cummins.

18 quarts of Rotella T 15w40 and a cummins filter and it was easy as pie. It jacked itself up perfectly level (actually lifts a tire off the ground!) and I was able to put a 5 gallon bucket under it.

What a beast!

huh? Jacks itself up and moves its wheel? Neat but sounds complex. Pretty awesome concept, but wonder what the bills are to repair such capabilities if/when they break.

high end motorhomes have self-leveling systems that are strong enough to lift some, if not all, of their weight completely off the ground; been that way for a while.

They use hydrualic jacks and high-quality electronic levels in an integrated system. Park it, safety check underneath, push a button or two, and Viola!

If you really want a challenge, instead of the engine oil, try bleeding the hydraulic lift system!

I think he meant that it elevates so high up that the wheel(s) lifts off the ground.

I was quite surprised to see that it did not use its elaborate air suspension to level itself. And it did indeed jack its 38000 pound butt literally off the ground in one corner!

And it's one of those 'if you have to ask...' kind of things. I believe it cost around 300k new and it reminds me of a boat in that it is very expensive to operate and requires a lot of attention to its various complex systems.

It's a real Freightliner chassis so at least the running gear seems to be reliable...

You should have snapped some pictures.

With nice boats the maintenance cost I believe is around 10% per year of the purchase price/value iirc.

I would have thought it held twice that amount or more of engine oil!
