I have narrowed it down to the following three full syn oils as choices for both my Honda motors. The accord is a 2.3L I4 (F23) and the MDX is a 3.5L V6 (J35).
I'd like to settle in for a 6kmiles/6month oci.
Although I am open for 5w30, I'd really like to try a 5w20 again (I once tried MC 5w20 and the UOA scared the $#@% out of me! It took me two years to muster the courage to try another 5w20). So here it is -

Castrol Syntec
Pennzoil Platinum
Valvoline Synpower

Does one stand out in any particular way (good or bad) than the others ?

I have narrowed it down to this after some UOA's (and reading LOTS of UOAs over here!) but I just need that last bit of good advise and insight that will help me decide on one.

btw, anybody have HTHS and VI for the Syntec ?

Thanks!

Not always true.

Right now Pep Boys has Pennzoil Platinum on sale for $1.99/qt after mail in rebate. Personally I would go with the Pennzoil Platinum.

Is 5w-20 spec'd for the Acura?

I'd run PP as well... at least to 7,500 mi intervals on these synthetics. Or just use a conventional for 5K.

After seeing a 10k interval UOA on Havoline in a Civic, whay even use synth? PZ dino turns in amazing numbers too. Unless you are actually dong severe service or long ocis, why pay 2x-3x for the same result?

I think that's what we said: price is the determinant.

I have run 5w20 "dinos" and full synthetic in our Hondas. Using Pennz Platinum at this time. Lots of good oil choices, check the UOAs.

None of these three are full synthetic. They are all GIII synthetics. You could get some PAO full synthetics in 0w20. Amsoil, Redline, M1.

if PP pumps well in your Honda. It didn't in my 06 v6 or alteast not as well as this M1.

Oil is like a box of chocolates..

vtec, werent you singing praises of PP only a while ago?

Yep, it made his AC colder too...

I tried the CS in my Caliber R/T and it returned a very good UOA for 5088 miles. The TBN was down to 3.2 so it might had gone another 500 miles. I have PP in now and will doing a UOA on it when I get about 5100 miles it. The PP was half the price of CS when AAP had it on sale as BOGO free.

But it doesn't end there, the miraculous Pennzoil Platinum also fixed his fuel pump whine!

hey after switching from MC to PP, I did get a bunch of cool and weird things. It did quieten that fuel pump 'knock' as well as smoothing out some other junk. Now that I am on M1 from that PP, I could care less how noisy my FP is. All I do now is constant windups and tear downs and repeat..
