I was in the Virginia Tech Car Club in college, and had one of the few domestic cars in the club. 240SXes were popular, along with RX-7s, Civics, etc. This was also back when email was new, and kids would have their car information in their email signature. Almost all of them would advertise "full synthetics", I guess to announce to the world that they use synthetic oil in their engine, transmission, and differential. I guess some of them cared about that stuff; maybe "full synthetics" gave you some sort of street cred.
Anyway, yes, most of them believed that if you didn't use synthetic oil and change it every 3,000 miles, you:
A) were cheap
B) didn't care about your car as much as they did theirs
C) were stupid
D) any combination of the above
Ironically, they would routinely damage their cars on car club "cruises", by running off the road or sliding into embankments. My friend and I went on one of the cruises. They were across all the back roads of western Virginia. I couldn't keep up...wasn't even going to try. We came up on one of them on the side of the road with a split right side tire. "Some {expletive} ran me off the road!" Right. About a mile up, one kid with an NSX slid it off the side of a corner and a tow truck had to retrieve it. It was frankly a little embarrassing to be out there with them and it was the first and last cruise that I attended...
