You generally get what you pay for, and remember, it only costs a little more to go first class. I have seen the results of using Amsoil products in my engines (cleaner cylinders and a longer run time on fuel). Amsoil is a premium product, therefore, will not be cheap. However, ASE can be purchased for well less than $8 as Pablo mentioned, and competitively priced with comparable quality oils.

What's to say you're not going to get the same results from something like Rotella, Delvac or any other decent suitable oil? Have you actually done a/b experiments to substantiate that Amsoil did a better job lubricating the engine when both oil types are changed at mineral oil interval requirments?

I've pulled apart plenty of engines that have never seen synthetic oil and they were visually perfect as well. So using that for a reason to spend twice as much money doesn't hold water.

You cannot disguise "oil obsession/marketing hype" as anything but that when there's neither mechanical necessity nor evidence to substantiate the benefits of using much more costly oil.

Synthetic oil has it's purpose. It makes no sense to use synthetic oil in mineral oil applications. Money spent, nothing gained.

The only people coming out ahead is those who are selling the product.

Kohler 20HP V-twin(commercial usage) with 1200 hours. Oil used Delo400 mono 30wt(temp 65F-88F). Recommended 100 hours OCI. Engine runs like new also internals very clean. Air cooled with pre foam air filter. Air filtering is very excellent on this engine which sees normal very little dust conditions.

Being cost effective if using synthetic oil, OCI would need to be increased to 200 hours intervals. It's doable in this application. As far as using synthetic oil for extended intervals external conditions may have a factor in using synthetic oil for extended intervals versus mineral oil. Extreme dust conditions, air filtering would be of importance.

In extreme dust condition, I'd favor a HDEO oil on recommended OCI.

I am sorry to burst your bubble, but I am not spending anywhere near twice the $$$ for Amsoil over a conventional engine oil. You need to check the prices. Also, once you realize the additional savings from the extra on a tank of fuel as compared to conventional, you have a nice bonus.

Ah, let's see. Best price I've seen in the USA is $8.00 for a liter of Amsoil. I've seen Rotella for less than $3.00 per liter. That sounds like more than double to me. Unless you're an Amsoil dealer, fat chance of getting it for much less.

Up here, Amsoil is $14.00 per liter. Not a chance in hall I'll be paying anywhere near that.
