I remember a decade ago when Toyota was turning out new models too quickly and quality was suffering. Seems something everyone goes through.

I wonder if the Ford ones are STILL related to the MyFordTouch issues, which were mentioned in the other article?

The Explorer and Taurus have been out for a number of years though...

"Ford Motor Co., General Motors Co. and Honda Motor Co. saw the reliability of many of their vehicles suffer because of unresponsive infotainment systems and faulty voice recognition commands, said Jake Fisher, director of auto testing at Consumer Reports, during a presentation at an Automotive Press Association event"

"CR's Director of auto testing Fisher said Monday that most of Ford’s problems are software-related — instead of a nuts-and-bolts hardware issue — which means the Dearborn automaker should have an easier time fixing glitches."

Lots of Fords on there, but I dont give CR much credit. Reliability should be measured over years and years of real world driving.

Yes, interesting. Goes back to my disdain for these giant screens and overly integrated computers in cars.

Remember that this is a relative ranking based upon owner reports.
Their owners may be influenced by buyer's remorse.
The worst car on this list is probably less troublesome than the best car of thirty years ago.
Most cars of any make or model are pretty trouble free these days.

More proof why all this fancyness needs to be taken out of cars. Make a fun to drive car without all the frills!!

Don't know. Price of the Ford Extended warranty I bought for pickup is up 20% in a year and a half. There is about a 40% premium for getting the warranty that covers all those electronic gizmos, so I assume that's where 40% of the repair costs are over the first 100K and 7 yrs at least.

The two concurrent least/best CR articles are all over the map.

I think the key element regarding hypervish's linked CR article are the terms "predicted reliability" and "basis for our forecasting". Yes, predictions and forecasting....just like weathermen.

In the hypervish "least" article the CR author states:

"Predicted reliability is typically based on the newest three model years if a model hasn't been redesigned in that period". They go on to bash the new Ford Escape based on one model year.

In this "best" CR article http://ca.autos.yahoo.com/news/consu...165357824.html .......a different CR author states :
"The most-reliable new car in our latest survey is the 2014 Subaru Forester. This small SUV has done great in our testing. It has excellent crash test scores. And now it is the reliability champ. A true grand slam.".

In this case, they crown the 2014 Forester as a reliability grand slam and it is a total new design with 2 new trannies (6sp. manual or CVT) and a host of other changes.

They seem to focus on Ford's MyTouch troubles, but seem to have overlooked Subaru Forester's ongoing oil burning problem, with last week's latest new TSB recommending engine rebuild with a new piston ring design (infotainment design vs. engine rebuild?

)
http://techinfo.subaru.com/static/whatsNew.html ........ 02-143/144/145-13R new oil control piston ring design.

They can predict/forecast both the least and best reliability in the very first model year. Good grief, Charlie Brown. Are they talking about initial reliability or predicted long term reliability???

Another useless report by Consumer Reports that I would take with a grain of salt. I am surprised that there aren't any Land Rover products on that list.

Agreed.

An informed car buyer should consult multiple sources before buying: Edmunds, CR, owner websites, etc.
