Counterfeit Fram Ultra ?

It would be useful to compile a list of all oil filter brands that are made by First Brands or one of it's owned companies.
It would become a "Do not buy" list.
The problem is and especially any made by Champion Labs, the various private labels they make for come and go and even with some private labels, they can source from two different makers. List could be outdated next week or a private label is blacklisted but depends on SKU.

Sometimes I feel like what oil filter to go with is the more vexing question than what oil to use? Like I said prior my inclination is just to go OEM and be done with it.

It would be interesting to do the flashlight leak test on the new additionally cheapened Fram Ultra. Wonder with the new cheapened design if they accidentally fixed the "leak of unfiltered oil" defect.

I wonder if the Honda OEM A02 filter's design is locked and unchangable with their contract with Fram, or if First Brands can be cheapening the Honda A02 Filters also.

You would hope Honda would have a say on the design especially in light of the fact that the filter is branded with their cooperate logo.

The Ecore style Ultra still has metal end caps, so if the leaf spring is still made in the ruffles factory then it will have the same leakage issue.

I had a older style fram ultra purchased at walmart. The metal center tube was crushed. I replaced it but contacted Fram and gave them hell in a professional way and sent them pics and shipped back filter to them.. 4 months later they put in plastic center tube, perhaps I'm to blame for the plastic center tube on new Ultras. LOL!

Stamping, forming and spot welding a center tube is much more expensive than an e-core. I don't have any issues with e-core as long as the holes are not too large to affect the media pushing through.
