Hi everyone,

I'm planning to refresh the coolant in my Opel Meriva B with the 1.4 liter turbo engine (120 HP). I'm not planning on using a strong chemical flush. Instead, my process will be to drain the old, discolored coolant, rinse the system with distilled water to clean it out, and then refill with new coolant that meets the correct specification.

I'm trying to figure out which coolant type is the correct one for my car. I've seen recommendations for both G12+ and Dex-Cool. Does anyone know which of these is the specifically recommended or most suitable coolant for this particular engine, considering this drain, rinse, and refill method?

Any advice or experience you can share would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

The thing that threw me off was the Valvoline website – when I put in my car's info, it suggested both some universal stuff and Dex-Cool. Just wanted to get your take on it to make sure I don't mess things up.

If I repeatedly fill and drain the cooling system with distilled water until the drained water is perfectly clean, does it then become less important whether I use G12+ or Dexcool?

That Opel was made by GM, right? They probably used Dexcool/Deathcool in it :sneaky:

Europe is banning 2-EHA, and of course, Chrysler/Stellantis may have back-spec'd the coolant with their own stuff

Most of the universal coolants have 2-EHA in them.
