Who has time for 3 coats? It take me 8 hours to do one coat. The is doing in all the door jams, trunk and under the hood. I'be be waxing for 2 or 3 days and even then the Meguires will be shot in under 2 or 3 months and will need to be reaplied. NuFinish will protect a full year with one coat. Might not shine as good but it is far more durable.

How big is your car? lol

I can say that giving time between coats of the 476 (more than 24 hours) makes the 845 come off super easy. And, the 845 is easy to apply, being such a light liquid. There's just something about a paste wax though!

Sounds like you pulled out all the stops. I'm looking forward to pics.

I've been using NuFinish for many years and never had a problem. I wax my cars twice a year. I condition the leather at the same time. My routine hasn't failed me yet, lol

A lot of people here are calling NuFinish a wax and it is not a wax, it is a sealant. Sealants typically last longer than waxes but tend to give the vehicle a "plasticy" look that is different from the warm glow that waxes give. Most people prefer the look of waxes but many people don't like the fact that most waxes only last 1 to 2 months. Collinite waxes last between 3 to 6 months and have that coveted warm "glowy" look. Oh, it's also very cheap, especially when you consider that it must be applied very thin, so you use very little product. I like to use the sealant, Duragloss, and follow it the next day with Collinite. I do this twice a year and in Oklahoma we have extreme heat (the hottest July on record in the US) and it also can get very cold here.

What good is a shine if it does not last. My buddy did 2 coats of one and then two coats of something else to give a a real shine. Shine it did but it did not last. I will take durability over shine any day. I like Nu Finish

I did the Duragloss/Collinite routine on our Fit, and like the result very much. The Duragloss was glossy, and the wax gave it a nice luster. Between those two, they should last through winter and spring. I'll find out when it stops beading.

There are quite a few waxes I'd take over NuFinish; Zaino, Duragloss, Klasse, Collinite, just to name a few, but you notice CR didn't test any of those...

I need to give this method a try. I already love Duragloss, and I've been itchin to give the Collinite a try. When you do this are you using the 476s, or the 845?

Couldn't the same thing be done with NuFinish and a wax then?

I don't see why not, I just don't like NuFinish...

Probably. The Duragloss was able to be shipped with the Collinite I ordered for no increase in shipping. It was the same price as NuFinish locally, so I sprang for the Duragloss instead of picking up the NuFinish.

Likely it's 6 of one, and half a dozen of the other...

Right. I do it in sections. My car is garaged,so durability is less of an issue,to me. I luv the smell of Meguire's in the morning. Lol.+I can get it at Walmart. I wax it 2x a year,Spring and Fall, when it's cool outside.

I use that new yellow Mequire's car was soap and it's great. I think it's called "Ultimate" Have you used it?Followed (of course) with the three coats of Meguires Gold Class liquid wax !

I should mention that this is for our motorcycles. We never wax our cars, just wash 'em. A pickup truck and a Ford Escape. Not like we have a vintage Mustang or Camaro or (gasp) a nice Porsche or Corvette.

Haven't tried that one. I just select from what they have at Walmart. I use the same combo for my bikes.

I've always just used Turtle wax and has worked for me.. I didn't need anyone to tell me I should because it works well and seems to last, but its interesting to see that Turtle Wax was rated well by them.

I also subscribe to Consumer Reports and haven't seen this article. I wonder if it is a very old review?

I too have been using the wax as u dry(WAUD) or quick detail(QD) products for ~10 yrs now. I love them. I don't promote any particular brand, as I try to buy them like I buy my oil/filters...sales/coupons/discontinued on store shelves. I buy up the shelf of WAUD/QD products for a buck/bottle on a discount table. I have a stash of these bottles just like I have a stash of oil/filters.

I do keep a little wax/silicon around, and once a year I may wax the top portions of my vehicles(hood/roof/trunklid) and even the nose/front facias just for a little extra protection that the WAUD/QD products may not offer.

But, these WAUD/QD products is just about all I use these days and I like'em very much and use them each time I wash the cars. So easy!

I have also reported several times on the Eagle 1 Gel Wax(E1GW) and it too has it's place.
