Considering to buy a fuel efficient used car

I inherited a 2005 Civc coupe with 30K miles.

With auto transmission I can easily get 46 MPG on the highway. The car costs pennies per mile to keep on the road.

I figure we only need one vehicle with AWD/4WD, so if your wife doesn't mind driving a Prius or something else more efficient, then it would make sense for her to drive the more fuel efficient car since she does most of the miles. If the weather is going to be bad, switch cars since your commute is short.
