Stick around maybe you'll figure it outWhat's HPL? The use of acronyms without explanation is confusing.
High Performance Lubricants excellent boutique oils and very customer service focused, very helpful to BITOG members. What's HPL? The use of acronyms without explanation is confusing.
And yet largely, the crux is/was largely platform agnostic. But in what vehicle with what motor?

I answered the crux of your question in post 37 when I said:And yet largely, the crux is/was largely platform agnostic.
Well, one of the two carries Ford F1 "approval" so there's that obvious difference in chemistry.I answered the crux of your question in post 37 when I said:
Delo XSP 5w40 and Delo XSP 15w40 are (mostly) the same product in different grades. There wouldn't be any additive conflicts switching back and forth between those two.

The Ford F1 approval might have nothing to do with additive package. It might have to do with viscosity.Well, one of the two carries Ford F1 "approval" so there's that obvious difference in chemistry.

I got it. IYO, the addpack is identical so nothingburger. Thanks.
No, it means one was tested and passed whereas one may not have been. That's all it really means.Well, one of the two carries Ford F1 "approval" so there's that obvious difference in chemistry.

The VOAs tell...a story, which was the crux of my question.
Virgin Oil Analysis just recently completed, CK4 formula purchased a couple months ago.
Figured I'd share, an updated VOA from one I saw while lurking last year.
On paper, looks decent enough but in the flesh, it's really a nice oil. Actually smells kind of sweet, like candy, and it hushes up some of the extra klicks and klacks of my Cummins 6.7 I get while running conventional Delvac 1300.
I'll toss up some low-mileage oil change analysis in the other boards.
Such a great site, figured I'd give a little something back.
Thanks, all...

New to the forum but have stalked in the background for years-- good info here.
Here's a voa on some Delvac Extreme 15W40 that I run in a 1LW 3406 cat--pretty severe service unit in oilfield grossing 120-130k pretty consistently with 250 hour OCI that's happening monthly. I'll be following up with some UOA so we can see how this Delvac Extreme synthetic shapes up.
Anybody care to offer any feedback on this oil or suggest something better?Thought about HPL but for that price, I'll just run the cheaper and change monthly-- even though I'm a fanatic about maintenance...
Look forward to...

Or it might not. There’s that pesky 1000 ppm phosphorous requirement. The Ford F1 approval might have nothing to do with additive package. It might have to do with viscosity.
You're a salty fellow, especially for someone asking others for advice, help, input. I'm surprised that other members have been so patient with it (so far). Keep it up and eventually you'll abuse these guys good will one time too many.
Wow - what comes after Ultra? Nothing?I doubt any measurable wear difference is detectable. If you like switching go for it.
Or
Split the difference with a quality 10W-40 with every approval available.

Fake “approvals” FTW.Wow - what comes after Ultra? Nothing?
Then keep doing what you've been foing.Switching oils is literally zero extra effort, so that is not the basis of the question. I presently have both grades of Delo on the shelf, for instance.
I don't think that and I don't think I ever said that.I’m just questioning your assertion that extreme/esp and Delo 5w/15w are using the same additive chemistry...
If the operative word in your statement is 'needs' then sure. But if you are saying that there is no difference in running an oil that shears more vs an oil that shears less...? I don't think anyone is saying they need to switch to a 15w40 for the summer. And I don't want to speak for the O.P., but for me I was just wondering if it can make a little more sense. The whole idea one needs to switch from a 5W to a 15W for Summer is based on nothing science.
