Cold Weather And EV's

Okay so what are you going to do about except raise your blood pressure and vote locally and federally?

For me. INstead drove my to ski home this week/weekend and enjoyed that. Back to work next week in an interesting IT job that pay and “title” turned into 50% pay increase. Some work due to EV push.

I just go with the flow. Life is really good if you want it to be. Also shutting off your TV with CNN, Fox extremism helps.
It's not about, "raising your blood pressure". And, "going with the flow" means to stick your head in the sand, and ignore it. This is what is wrong in this country today.... Apathy.

It is flat out wrong for the government interfering in what you can and cannot own. Anymore than they should be able to tell you what you have to have injected into your body. By having the government browbeating you into doing it. If you sit idly by this will only get worse. "Live and let live" has to work both ways.

With the government it is only one way..... Their way. The more people who voice their opposition to this type of nonsense, the less of a chance this has of happening.

If you like EV's and want to buy one, that's great. The free market should supply you with what you want. The government should not interfere in any way, shape, or form. If they think they are so wonderful, then put out a public service announcement telling people why....

And let them judge for themselves. Don't bribe people with taxpayer funded subsidies, to entice them into the purchase. Or by forcing automakers to stop manufacturing ICE. That's complete nonsense, and goes against the very principals this nation was founded on.

Products should be performance driven..... Not agenda driven.

I really like how the sodium-ion battery tech is evolving. I feel all the current EV's with the lithium batteries will be dinosaurs when the sodium battery makes it's way into EV's...kinda like what the lithium did to the NiCd, and NiMh.

This looks promising to deal with the buildup of sodium at desalination plants which is what California needs.
The reason Lithium Ion overtook the market instead of sodium was that it has significantly higher energy density. Sodium has about half the capacity for the same weight. Not much of an issue for stationary batteries, but obviously that's a problem for transportation if your 120kWh lithium battery is 1,000lbs and a sodium equivalent is 2,000lbs.

It's not a question of, "getting wound up". It's a direct reality. If you don't want to face the facts of it, along with how they are the driving force behind the bulk of this type of EV mandate crap, that's fine.

But that doesn't mean others aren't concerned about the very real possibility of having something forced upon them they don't want any part of. And California leads the way in that department. With all of this green crap. Along with many other things.

Be it solar panels, or EV's, the government should stay the hell out of it.... Period. Other states are following suit. And the fact of the matter is people don't like it. This has nothing to do with, "hating EV's". But rather having something forced upon them they do not want.

California has taken the approach of pushing something on the public, instead of allowing the free market to operate as it should. And living there or not, it will have repercussions nationwide for the rest of the country. Regardless if you want to believe it or not. Or care or not. This type of complete nonsense is borderless when it comes to the negative effect it produces.

EDIT: The fact I have to explain any of this to you tells me a lot.
@billt460 has a point; CA leads the nation (and the world) in many regards. We will overtake Germany this year and be the 4th largest economy in the world, by ourselves. The rest of the nation benefits from our powerful economic engine and policies, especially the economically challenged states. The shear tax revenue numbers dwarf any other state and our technological advances lead to opportunities across our nation, generating wealth.
What happens here is likely to be replicated in other states. I love it here and have benefitted from CA policy and opportunity, regardless of the years of mistakes I made.

Your're right. End the subsidies.

End all the subsidy for electrics which is mice nuts compared to what were spending elsewhere.
End all the military protection money and subsidy for oil.
End all the government loans and bailouts for auto companies especially section 179 and half tons.

Stop protecting hostile regimes that hate us.

What is good for the goose is absolutely good for the gander.

Unless what you are saying is keep subsidizing certain things, but not others?

I could live with that. The oil companies won't starve. And if the auto companies have to slash and burn to survive, much like IBM did in the late 60's and early 70's, that's all well and good.

All companies go through this from time to time. They get too fat.... Much like Musk is cleaning house over at Twitter. Chop the deadwood off so the rest can grow, lean and strong again.

And while you're at it get rid of the, "Department Of Homeland Security". Why do we need it, when we have a half dozen or more branches of the military, whose sole purpose is to, "protect the homeland?

"Generating wealth through taxation"??? Seriously? Then why is California going broke?
My point was Federal income tax; CA generates a lot of revenue that the entire nation uses.
CA is not going broke; not sure where you heard that. Tax revenues will be down this year. Do you know why? Mainly from the poor stock market performance. In fact, the projected surplus has been diminished by the market woes.

Is it that you dont like EVs, or don't like government meddling? Because it just comes off as not liking EVs, considering your lack of anti-Big Oil rants.

I agree. I follow CA because the nonsense that occurs there is either going on here or is soon to come. The only difference here is the EV isn't taking off as quickly. I think people in my area realize climate, traffic, and the antiquated grid is not conducive to the EV yet. Sad to see what CA, MA, and NY to name a few turned into. I also have a feeling the ICE is going to be around longer than the powers that be think.

California is a barometer. For sure. I tend to view EV and gas the other way. By 2035, EV will be so good noone will even want gas except for collectors and hobbyists purpose. Already Im happy I have ev over gas this winter. Excellent traction, and it starts even in the cold. My neighbor? He was just complaining that none of his ICE engines cranked. His RV, his car, none of it. Stranded until things warmed up.

Where does this guy live? Even my lawn mower which sat for 3 months since I last used it fired up on one pull for me to winterize it and put it away until spring.
