Cold Weather And EV's

Complain all you want, ICE will (mostly) die. Too labor intensive to build vs. EV. We’ve know this for years. Most automakers have publicly stated it.

Finally committing to battery production is the final nail in the proverbial coffin.

These were Ford’s numbers from 2017.

Ice trucks wont die, cars and SUV's will slowly die off.

Not so much because of mandates - because few will want them.

ah well then California is banned from my list of states to retire to.
there you go, there is equalization and justice in the universe.

Are you sure it's not just California, or California and every state that has California Emissions. Since the ICA ban is part of CA emissions, other state follow.

I won't live in any state, with Cali emissions standards, that's it.
Here's why:
Yes the fools in NY adopted cali emissions because they felt that fed emissions weren't good enough Why do I object to that? Well, wait till you have to replace a cat converter. 49 state version isn't good enough, you MUST have the cali version, and if by chance they become NLA, you can't get a perfectly good vehicle past inspection because of this idiotic practice. Now tell me will anyone ever be able to measure the actual impact on air quality of 49 state vs cali emissions? Of course not.
Meanwhile the EPA and the state regulators here, ignored the ground water problem on Long Island, for approximately 40 years. It was all due to past industrialization and farming and resulted in higher than normal cancer rates in a number of communities.
It is finally being dealt with now, and the signs were present in the late 40s. That's a problem, and I feel that 2 emissions standards should be illegal, there is no cost benefit analysis that proves it is worth the cost and inconvenience to car owners.

maybe you should read what the president of the world's largest auto company said about this.
hint: he didn't agree
hint: the name of the company starts with a T and ends with an A

If it's just an OBDII scan for emissions, you can use a 50 state cat and an O2 spacer. As long as you plan on junking the car eventually you should be good here.

The consumer rules and impossible to make that prediction.
A significant portion of the population is not going to go backwards in their standard of living refueling a battery powered car.
Notice I say battery powered. I think EV maybe the future if they run on a type of Fuel Cell.
Battery only operated vehicles are so yesterday.
Impossible to dismiss the ICE. Heck Porsche has already invented a gasoline replacement fuel.

Judging by some of the comments made here, I think a significant portion of the population has forgotten just how easy and FAST it is to refuel an ICE vehicle. But you're correct about going backwards.

I would spend less time refueling an EV than I do with our current or previous ICE runabout vehicles. Pull it into the garage, plug it in, walk inside. No standing outside in -35°C babysitting a gas pump.

Towing or long-distance trips with the pickup is a different story.

It's faster an easier on a road trip, but much less convenient than starting every day with a full tank/ max range and never having to go anywhere.

Pick which is more convenient for you, one size doesn't fit all.

Which brings us right back to the whole 2 vehicle problem, if you have to go anywhere that's a good distance. Which most everyone does. EV's are taking us back to the settlers...... When most people lived their entire lives within a 50 mile radius of where they were born. That's called backwards alright.

In Illinois there is a town called Half Day. It's around 30 miles from downtown Chicago. It was named that by the early settlers, because it took about a half of a day to get there from the city. Perhaps EV's would have been an improvement for them.

There are very few to no places you cannot get to in a BEV, the question is how much more time. It's super easy to plot as well and the trip tools proven out.

No BEV will likely ever be a primary vehicle for me as I require trucks, either a middle size one or larger.

Dont remember half day, grew up in Pekin 0-8th grade, moved to chicago as a freshman.
