From what I've recently seen on the Science Channel, I'm hypothesizing that it's already too late to worry about global warming. It'll get a little warmer and then we quickly switch to a northern hemisphere freeze. Glad I moved to Central Texas.

Al Gore lost the election in 2000, that's what happened to Global Warming!

The climate will do what it does and truly does not give a rat's a** about us puny humans.

Around 1,000 years ago, Vikings landed on the coast of a new country and gave it a - at the time - perfectly sensible name:

"Green Land."

It actually was green where they landed. Then the climate abruptly changed and they quickly suffered malnutrition and then died out. This "mini ice age" apparently lasted until the late 1700's.

Seems we're overdue for another abrupt and drastic climate shift back to cold. Then we'll be blogging each other about the necessity of running 0W-20 or the "newly-invented just for the ice age" 0W-5, but only in winter.

It was 5 below zero at 2 o'clock in the morning here and I had to drive everybody home from a X-mas get-together.The Cherokee fired right up and the oil pressure came right up on the gauge after sitting for 10 hours..beautiful...using 0W-40 Esso XD-3 HDEO synthetic in the straight six

Nothing better than easy starting and minimized startup wear.

The trouble here is that while there was all the usual Christmas merriment around me (my wife's family all play guitar and sing)I was looking foward to the cold start-up to test the XD-3 I am running now instead of the Delvac..I need help..

HA! Plan a little road trip through the Praries my friend. That will be a good test of the cold-start pumpability of Esso XD-3 0W-30. BRRRR.

It has warmed up, it's "only" -20 C!

A little late, I know, but I agree with Gene K's recommendation:

"Shell Rotella T Synthetic 5W-40. $12.88 a gallon at WalMart."

...is anyone using the XD-3 out there and how is it pumping in the extremes?

XD-3 0W-30 and 0W-40 seems to be very popular with our Canadian Members. You would likely get a better response by posting a new topic.

Your car does not experience wind chill. The outside temp is what the temp is, period. Wind chill is what we feel from the effects of heat loss. Same as a warm day with a cool breeze. Your Jeep 4.0 will do fine on 10-30 year round, but many have shown better wear numbers on a 40 weight. Personally, I run 1 gallon of HDEO 15/40 ((currently trying Tection) with 2 quarts of 5-30 in the summer, and a 50/50 mix in the winter. No issues here right outside of St. Louis, MO, in 130,000.

Hey all I'm back in the thread.. Originally the reason for the cold start problems is that it just turns over sooooo slowwwwly..... Even with being in the 65f garage right now it isn't very fast of a turnover..

Last year shortly after I wrote this, it went down to -5 one morning.. I honestly thought it would not start, it was one of those --- rr-rrrr-rrrr-rrrr then fired. Didn't sound real healthy for about 15 seconds, oil pressure was pretty high.

I guess I'm trying to figure out now why it turns over so slowly. Starter amp pull is fine, new battery, everything checks out however. Ended up getting all that the smalltown walmart had in 6qts, which was trop artic 10-30
