Coffee - Your Current Brew

Costco just delivered 20 pounds of our favorite coffee. Never bought this much at one time but it was $10 off a case 4 pounds in a case.
Coffee is dated 01/2027

The dog was already here and not part of the delivery😀

Toy poodle??
Close!
Miniature red poodle😀
He turns one year-old at the end of this month.
Love the guy, well behaved, a lot of energy lol
Have 2 toys. One 13 the other just turned 18. The 13 year old thinks and acts like he's 2.
Very cool, yes, it’s amazing the amount of energy they , granted this one is still only one year-old. His weight is 13 pounds.. I’m sure you know how intelligent they are. I can’t believe you have an 18-year-old.. wow!

I did research on him, poodles were developed in Germany or France and to this day, both countries argue over it. I believe it’s the official dog of France.
They were originally bred, the standard size as water dogs to retrieve water fowl when hunting.
Poodles have webbed feet to propel them through the water as well as the hair around their joints to smooth the water flow.

All I know is this guy has no fear of water. Since he was a puppy, we had him swimming in the intracoastal waterway.
When another dog is coming down the street as I walk him he will even lay down in a stupid puddle, waiting for the dog to come up to him. LoL

We have him groomed every two months, so depending on month he always has a different look. One month, the more shaggy look and the other month the more poodle look.

The photo next to the coffee we had him groomed just over a week ago. We don’t go to the heavy poodle look just something in between.
Below is the more shaggy look at Christmas time when our daughter and her boyfriend visited with their two dogs.

We got ourselves the espresso machine for Christmas and it's changed me. I used to have coffee at work, Tim Hortens, or wherever. I can honestly say, I haven't had any of the free work coffee (keurig) or stopped at tim's since. My coffee consumption is DOWN but the quality is way up. A double shot americano in the morning and I'm good.
I do have a couple of questions:
1. The wand that came with the machine is 51mm and has a double spout on the bottom. Is it worth getting another one that's open on the bottom?
2. There seems to be "filters" that you put on your tamped coffee to keep the machine cleaner. Anyone use them? Useful?

These specifically:

Also experimenting with different coffees. Tried these three easily purchased options:

The Illy was terrible.

Costco beans are often stale. Your location may vary.

I make my own blends. The coffees I buy in Canada, Starbucks Italian roast, and Whole foods brands. Amazing espresso.

Grind is about the most important for a healthy physical pull. Bean freshness, roast, amount and origin all weighing in on the sensory side.

Agree with your stale beans statement. Sometimes if they have a big stack, l find fresher beans at the bottom(based on the best by date).

I'm currently working through a 2.5 lb bag of Costco beans that were on sale. There was about a 3 to 4 week difference between the dates at the top and bottom of the stack. I forgot the brand, but the stuff is decent for $15 for a 2.5 lb bag.

The past week I've tried something new. I've been doing kind of a Vietnamese coffee thing.
I take an egg yolk and unsweetened condensed milk (as opposed to sweetened used in traditional Vietnamese coffee) and froth it up. Pour it on top of my usual Lavazza Super Crema brewed out of my Moccamaster, and I have to admit it's really good.

Amazon had this on S&S for $4.15
Unlike many light roasted breakfast blends this is medium roasted. Very forward taste profile with a mild chocolate taste that lingers nicely. Compared to the last Pete's I had, this is better. I get four 60 oz pots per bag.
